FFS. Because I've just had to clear up a bottle of wine that has smashed on the kitchen floor.

Since when was a tub of coleslaw, a loaf of bread and one bottle of wine too much for a carrier bag to cope with.

Bloody thing tore straight through the handle as I picked it up. Xmas Angry Sob.

I always double or treble bag stuff in Asda. Their shitey bags might as well be made of wet tissue paper.

BigGums · 14/12/2012 18:42

My motto in life is 'Never trust a carrier bag'

Sorry about your wine :(

WelshMaenad · 14/12/2012 18:42

This happened to me with a co op bag once, I complained and head office sent me back to the store to collect replacement wine.

Complain!!!

SantaIAmSoFuckingRock · 14/12/2012 18:42

asda bags always rip open on me and i really dont over fill them even thought they try and get you to.

YANBU

Get yourself some turtle bags. Made of string and can easily carry 15 hardback library books.

noblegiraffe · 14/12/2012 18:46

It's to encourage you to use reusable ones.

GaryBuseysTeeth · 14/12/2012 18:47

I put two 2pints of milk in one of the 10p plastic Tesco bags for life, and it ripped as I was putting it into the trolley.

No more plastic bags for us.

Taking a moments silence for your wine, hope you're got another bottle.

Busyoldfool · 14/12/2012 18:54

Sorry about your wine OP - that is a "last straw" type thing and has had me in tears on occasions it has happened to me. I now always use real shopping bags now; stronger, easier to pack, easier to put in to the car or on the bus as they stand up rather than "splat" out when you put them down - better for the environment.

I admit I hate it when I am in Asda and see people loading up the trolley with bag after bag which gets thrown away.

Hope the day got better for you though

fourandahalfkids · 14/12/2012 18:57

The ones from tesco are equally rubbish. Printed all over with reuse me or recycle me, your lucky if you can even get them home without the bottom falling out. It's a false economy as I have to use twice as many bags with fewer items in.
I really need to invest in some smaller sturdy shopping bags, have loads of big ones for the big shop, but nothing that you can walk home with without them dragging on the floor.

Startail · 14/12/2012 19:21

Yes new Tesco one are awful.

Normally have reusable ones, but we'd swaped/swoped cars about.

I ended up with loads because they looked so feeble.

mumzy · 14/12/2012 19:23

Waitrose carrier bags are the pits love Asdas one though!

desperateforaholiday · 14/12/2012 20:08

Yabu, they're free, buy the Hessian ones they are reusable and I would guess they're more environmentally friendly too. But I would still be gutted about the wine, maybe give them a call and see if they will reimburse you

financialwizard · 14/12/2012 20:17

We use plastic crates for food shopping that we got when we lived in Germany. They are ace, but tend to encourage me to fill them with heavy food stuffs.

Theicingontop · 14/12/2012 20:17

A little information on why foreskins actually exist:

Theicingontop · 14/12/2012 20:22

Hahah I really must keep an eye on which internet tab I'm using.

Asda bags, yeah. They're pretty shit eh.

hugoagogo · 14/12/2012 20:23

YuleBritannia · 14/12/2012 20:24

This happened to me earlier this week when a bottle of wine fell through the bottom of an Asda carrier bag. I was lucky though because I was in the car and was picking it up to take into the house. The wine dropped onto the car's carpeted floor but only from the passenger seat.

wannabedomesticgoddess · 14/12/2012 20:25

:o

tazzle22 · 14/12/2012 20:25

hhmmmm yabu ..... its rather forseeable imo that such skimpy freebies will not hold such things securely Xmas Wink. I do however sympathise re the lost wine Xmas Sad

TessGoesDirectToBethlehem · 14/12/2012 20:27

You'd be better off taking a pair of tights to put your shopping in Grin
