To think works christmas night outs are always a let down?

Since I'm getting quite old now I've worked in quite a few places and I'm always struck that that the majority of people look awkward on these things and wonder what the point of them is. Should we ban them and all be miserable? What's other people's experience?

The point was that I got off with the man I had been lusting after all year about 10 years ago. Now they are boring.

No much older than 34 so maybe it's just me being a misery guts. People do look awkward though

There was a bit on Daybreak about work Christmas parties and Lorraine 'it's amazing' Kelly said that a study showed 1 out of 5 men cheated on their DPs at these do's.

The figure was less for women, but apparently less women get caught having affairs than men do.

YANBU! It's the whole forced enjoyment with colleagues that I don't like! I haven't socialised with people from work for about 3 years and I'm always told I didn't miss anything other than the same few people get wasted and show themselves up. I would rather spend time with my family or go out for a meal and drinks with friends.

I was really looking forward to mine, was a bit crap TBH. Everyone went home by 11

Still since I had an overnight babysitter I got to sleep for 11 hours, that was worth it

Well, I think it's a bit of a generalisation to say they are always a let down. I've been to dozens a few over the years, and some have been OK, some have been great, and some have been that kind of false 'Just because we happen to work in the same place, I'm not sure we're really every going to be bestest friends, but I feel I ought to go so everyone doesn't think I'm miserable' nights.

I've been to some truly dreadful ones and some that were proper good fun. The best one was when I was working for a local authority and the plans all fell through so we just set ourselves up in a massive room upstairs in the town hall with as much booze as we could muster and a huge sound system. No chairs, no decorations, no curtains on the windows even, hardly any food (just bits and bobs out of the local supermarket on paper plates) and we went on dancing, drinking and carousing all night and it was great.
