Seriously, pack it in.

I know you do good for the school yadda yadda but it DOES rather cheese one orf when one has being waiting for 30 minutes outside school to get a decent seat and then one finds that PTA wimmin have reserved all the good seats for them and their DHs/children's siblings. Then said PTA wimmin waft in 2 minutes before the performance starts.

You want a good seat then put the work in, m'kay? Kfanx. xxx

I should add that I have no idea if the PTA wimmin reserve all the best seats at the nativity because I get there so late, I can't even see the seats at the front

I'm just joining in buppy's righteous indignation :o

GrannyRatAteAllTheMincePies · 13/12/2012 18:19

I've been on PTA for years (Secretary and Chair and general dogsbody) and our school never reserves seats for anyone. I'd be embarrassed to accept a reserved seat at the front.

Quick question though; why is acceptable to reserve places for Governors but not PTA members? They all give their time to the school for free Xmas Confused

freddiefrog · 13/12/2012 18:23

I'm on our school's PTA and we never get to reserve seats.

I usually end up standing at the back after we've finished serving the tea/coffee and mince pies

Our PTA also helps with the costumes although I can't sew for shit , parents usually provide the base of the costume (plain black leggings and t-shirt) and the PTA make the rest of it

CabbageLeaves · 13/12/2012 18:32

Sadly amongst the hard working altruistic parents we have alpha mommy. Guess what ...her child was the star last night....again. Front row reserved for her family and two companions. It is tiresome. Head practically kisses her toes. Loads of parents won't join the PTA because she's such an unpleasant woman

I have been a governor and worked on PTA, mum help etc. I didn't do it to be considered above the other parents. It's blatantly obvious she does

TandB · 13/12/2012 18:38

Has anyone considered the possibility that they might help with the play? Grin

I'm not going to join the PTA when DS1 goes to school next year.

I am, however, going to train like a ninja and win the mums' race at the sports day by an unprecedented margin.

Because I'm an over-competitive cowbag and I suspect it will irritate lots of people who will then have to pretend they don't care.

It will be fun.

DowagersHump · 13/12/2012 18:41

I can see the eyes narrowing already kungfu. Throwing down the gauntlet - please do report back :o

yousankmybattleship · 13/12/2012 18:42

I think it is fair enough that they get a little perk. They've done a lot for the school. Sounds like a good idea to me.

TandB · 13/12/2012 18:43

I'm imagining all the little tinkly I-don't-mind-a-bit laughs and steely-eyed glares as I streak, Yusain Bolt-like across the line.

I might get a coach....

TandB · 13/12/2012 18:44

Not streak as in take all my clothes off and run about, obviously.

Streak, as in run really, really fast. Like a blur of speed. That type of streak.

Rudolphstolemycarrots · 13/12/2012 18:47

Our PTA has nothing to do with the play but still insists on reserving rows and rows. Something to do with serving 5 cups of coffee at 50p each after the show makes them entitled

UniS · 13/12/2012 18:47

Do people REALLY want to sit in the front at an infant school play?? I never sit at the front, I see every flipping performance... because I am working on the play and by sitting at the back one can zone out .

DowagersHump · 13/12/2012 18:48

I wouldn't object if Usain Bolt wanted to run naked. I'm nice like that

mignonette · 13/12/2012 18:50

The fact that I would be obliged to attend school plays is enough to put me off being a Governor....God, whatever do they do to deserve that fate?

WhenAChildIsBawnTigga · 13/12/2012 18:58

Baubles IYF they are helping with the play.

WandersOffWhistlingInnoncentlyTiggaxx

TandB · 13/12/2012 19:04

Usain. That's how you spell it. I can never remember!

I suspect you might object if I ran about naked....

BegoniaBampot · 13/12/2012 19:10

Won my mums race my first year at the school. Was confident the next year and two other mums beat me. I assume the one that won was a mum though I had never seen her before or since. I suspect that she just goes round the schools to run in mum's races with her spikes on, god she was fast. I've since retired, if I can't win then I'm not running.

Viviennemary · 13/12/2012 19:14

YANBU. Just remove a coat and sit down. I did this once in a similar situation and there was a huge row. Grin

TandB · 13/12/2012 19:14

Begonia, come and coach me. It will be like Chariots of Fire. I'll be Harold Abrahams and you can be Sam Mussolini.

BendyBobsBrusselsSprouts · 13/12/2012 19:17

Yanbu.

And as for the ones who reserve seats with their coatsHmm. Same coats, same faces in front row. Every time.

jimmenycricket · 13/12/2012 19:30

There was a fabulous barney at ours today because the head insisted all the parents with pushchairs leave them in the corridor so there was enough room. I heard at least five parents say 'but what do you expect me to do with the baby - hold her on my knee'. Grin

BegoniaBampot · 13/12/2012 19:36

Long as I get the bike and winter woolies while you run your chuff off.

Joiningthegang · 13/12/2012 19:44

Yabu

TandB · 13/12/2012 19:47

Nope. You get a straw boater and all the other parents glaring at you for unsportsmanlike conduct.

weevilswobble · 13/12/2012 19:56

Just join the sodding PTA. Then you can be in their priviledged gang. Ffs

Ragwort · 13/12/2012 20:07

Why are so many mumsnetters so anti-PTA? I have been on numerous PTAs & have always enjoyed what I do and helping the schools that my DS was involved in. Is there really a 'type' that get involved - as someone said further up the thread it's those of us who probably have very thick skins and take all the unpleasant comments from the non PTA 'types' (if there is a non-type Grin).

I have never sat at the front for a play - personally can't think of anything worse - but I have spent endless time in preparation, selling tickets, baking, fund raising, clearing up after everyone else and other mindlessly boring tasks that 90% of parents walk away from. Smile. Thank goodness my DS is now at secondary school and no PTA in sight Xmas Grin.
