To ask for a witty come back to the "lady of leisure" comments

We have a big get together tomorrow night, almost all of us have children and I am the only one who has not gone back to work.
I am more than happy and comfortable with this as is my dh.
One of our crowd does not have children and never fails to ask if I am still "a lady of leisure" please help me with a witty riposte, much as I'd like to tell him to fuck off it would spoil the evening somewhat. (It needs not to be too cutting as they were unable to have a family of their own, and he already thinks I have a sharp tongue on me)

Ps I know this may not belong in Aibu but I couldn't find what category chat was in using the app

"Are you volunteering to babysit, since it is so easy?"

MyLastDuchess · 07/12/2012 16:00

"Yes, if you consider providing 24-hour live-in on-call childcare to be 'leisure' then every day's a holiday!"

vintageviolets · 07/12/2012 16:00

I would just say "yes I am, its great"

LadyMargolotta · 07/12/2012 16:03

Don't be defensive. Just smile brightly and tell them how much you love your life with your children.

BunnyLebowski · 07/12/2012 16:04

I would just smile and say "Yes it's great isn't it? Sure beats working!"

Knobhead.

HazleNutt · 07/12/2012 16:11

as others have said, just reply: "Yes! It's brilliant"
And to the usual next question: "But what do you do the whole day?"

  • "Whatever I want!"
Pootles2010 · 07/12/2012 16:13

Agree with vintage! You're pleased with how you spend your days, why would you be defensive?

HappyMummyOfOne · 07/12/2012 16:15

Why not just answer yes? Its the truth so why do you need it to be witty? Sounds better than saying unemployed.

ShatnersBassoon · 07/12/2012 16:15

"It's not leisurely all the time. Just most of the time."

MrsTerryPratchett · 07/12/2012 16:16

Bunny surely you meant those quotation marks to be one word further on. Xmas Grin

corlan · 07/12/2012 16:18

Why be defensive? You're really lucky to not have to work.

Most of us would love to sit on our bums all day watching Jeremy Kyle and eating chocolate hobnobs Xmas Wink

Softlysoftly · 07/12/2012 16:19

Just smile then when he gets up to go to the loo/bar/fag follow him and say "what u doing? Why? Where you going? Come look at the lights!!! Oooh a shoe!! , let me in! Let me in! Let me in!, repeat his name 10 times, then say "nothing" gaily. Hey hey i need a weewee!! Ask for some of his dinner then spit it back on his plate.

Repeat all night.

Then ask the fucker how relaxed he is.

FatherHankTree · 07/12/2012 16:21

Agree with the posters who've advised you to say 'it's great, brilliant, etc'. It's the truth and it'll piss off Mr. Tosspot.

CaliforniaSucksSnowballs · 07/12/2012 16:23

Big grin and say "Jealous much?"
Or tell them it's so tedious, sitting on my butt all day eating bon bons.

HappyJustToBe · 07/12/2012 16:25

Softly Grin

MistletoeAndTomHardyPlease · 07/12/2012 16:26

Ha softly!

IslaValargeone · 07/12/2012 16:27

:o softly

ArielThePiraticalMermaid · 07/12/2012 16:29

How about "Oh do fuck off, there's a dear," in a bored voice?

MrsTerryPratchett · 07/12/2012 16:30

Softly I wonder if the OP could get that clip on YouTube of Stewie Griffin on her phone and play it to him. This one.

VisualiseAHorse · 07/12/2012 16:30

I call myself a lady of leisure! Just grin and agree.

Softlysoftly · 07/12/2012 16:32

Love that clip! Just made the baby jump snorting.

MrsTerryPratchett · 07/12/2012 16:34

It's funny because it's true.

TessGoesDirectToBethlehem · 07/12/2012 16:36

"Well, you got some of it right, but I'm not a lady - so fuck off before I knock yer lights out"

Is what I would want to say Xmas Grin

But I agree with others that it's best just to say "Yes" and smile sweetly.

Sallyingforth · 07/12/2012 16:38

Don't be defensive! Be proud of what you are doing.

I'm working hard now (apart from the time wasted here) so that I can be a SAHM when the time comes. I will be delighted to deal with comments like that.

EverlongLovesHerChristmasRobin · 07/12/2012 16:38

Maybe he's just making small talk?

Or do you think he's definitely on the wind up?
