Every time I do a boxing workout he asks what hand I hold a pen with and then insists that I am Orthodox.
Doh. I am a Catholic. And how does writing with a particular hand determine religion. What if I was ambidextrous? Would that make me C of E?

He's meaning orthodox in comparison to 'south paw' - right handed as opposed to left. it's basic boxing terminology and has absolutely no religious meaning whatsoever. why didn't you ask him what he meant ?

'orthodox' doesn't just refer to types of superstition. He may well mean that you are right-handed, as Dpotter says. Or he may be a total thicko who is doing the equivalent of saying 'You like one sugar in your tea? You must be GAAAAYYYYY!' ie using a word he doesn't know the meaning of as an insult.

umm, surely holding your pen in your right hand means you are right handed and...that's it.

and your thread title is way OTT for what happened. i was expecting to hear that he had gone on about his religion throughout your training session. not that he said one word that could be associated with religion.

ask him does he mean Russian or Greek Orthodox? or Serbian?
