To be bloody fuming that DH

showers EVERY FUCKING MEAL I make in black pepper? Without tasting first?
Just had a row about it because I was unable to bite my tongue on this occasion, having made a delicious spiced carrot and lentil soup (roasted and ground the spices myself, put extra effing chilli and mustard seeds in for him), only to watch as he coated it in pepper and extra chilli before taking a mouthful.
I KNOW he likes a lot of pepper and I wouldn't care if he did this after trying it but he doesn't accept that it's rude. I love salt but I would never add it before tasting a meal.
Really really pisses me off. Can you tell?!

Are there any other red flags your DH should be noticing about your controlling behaviour OP?

Don't be silly. He just has to always wear blue pants and walk downstairs backwards. Perfectly reasonable.

Chandon not a smoker but he does have a dodgy nose which probably impacts on his palate.

This annoys me too, DH puts salt on everything without tasting it first, its a habit.

If I make something a bit salty, (gammon or smoked fish) I hide the salt at the far end of the table, so DH has to think for a second before putting it on.

SeasonallySnowyPeasant · 05/12/2012 20:49

I think it's hideously rude to ruin add salt/pepper/chilli flakes to a dish someone has cooked from scratch without tasting it first. So YANBU from me.

pictish · 05/12/2012 20:52

Oh god - it's up to him surely?!
My fil's wife polices his seasoning and portion size. Go away Mother Hubbard.

ChippingInLovesAutumn · 05/12/2012 20:57

I'd love it.

I'd serve tinned soup - if he's going to ruin it, why make so much effort??

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 05/12/2012 21:02

Yeah OP YANBU.

Yy to Hecs suggestion! i'd love to see that Xmas Grin

TheNightwearBeforeChristmas · 05/12/2012 21:14

YANBU about being annoyed.
YABU to be bloody fuming.

DH is exactly the same with salt. He doesn't see the connection between salt and high blood pressure.

MadameCreeper · 05/12/2012 21:19

Look on the bright side. If they put it on your food before tasting then you get to blame their condimentfuckery. If they taste it, then add pepper, it's a comment on your cooking ;)

nickelbabylyinginamanger · 05/12/2012 21:21

I'm with you op.
my ex used to do it with salt. never even attempted to taste first.
it is rude and uncouth.

i agree with he. make the food properly, serve both up then pour half a pot of pepper into his. stir it well so it's not obvious.

or you could replace the pepper in the pot with something else. maybe flour. if it's auto seasoning

GreenPetals · 05/12/2012 21:21

Well actually I can see the point of the OP.
She prepares a meal, take some time to make it to her DH's taste (adding extra chili etc...), takes time to make something nice to taste and her DH automatically add some more pepper.
If he had wanted to say he didn't care about her effort, he couldn't have found another way to say it.

And how do you know if you need more seasoning if you haven't tasted it? I don't know this is one of the thing I am teaching my dcs. You don't now if you will like it until you've tried. he hasn't. He just drown the stuff in pepper and kills and nice tastes coming from home made curry, roasted spices etc-

Actually OP, the reason why you should LTB is for his complete inability to taste foods.

IneedAsockamnesty · 05/12/2012 21:24

I think it's very rude but each to there own, perhaps you could pick your nose at the table and see how he likes it.

JustFabulous · 05/12/2012 21:27

2 1/2 hours later there is a reason for the liking of lots of pepper!

HipHopOpotomus · 05/12/2012 21:34

I love pepper - put it on everything. I add pepper sauce to everything dp cooks. I don't see how that is rude?

I really think you should let go of this - why would his taste buds offend you? I think getting into a state about it is OTT. Is something else what's really bugging you?

worsestershiresauce · 05/12/2012 21:35

I grind black pepper on to every meal without tasting first. If tomatoes are involved I douse them in vinegar as well. That's how I like my food. You're being a whiny control freak - let him enjoy his food how he likes it, or else don't eat with him.

flossy101 · 05/12/2012 21:36

I do this to my own food. I just love black pepper, when I go to say an Italian and they come along with the black pepper grinder and say "say when", I will have the waiter stood there grinding the pepper for ages because I just LOVE it! Grin

SeasonallySnowyPeasant · 05/12/2012 21:38

But the OP has already made an effort to prepare the food to his liking.

PartridgeInASpicyPearTree · 05/12/2012 21:40

Another DH that does this here. It drives me to distraction. I am also silently offended if guests do it. A lot of work goes into the flavours in a decent meal and it's rude imo to turn it all into "generic salt/pepper flavoured slop" when someone has made an effort to cook for you.

But I do realise that most people will think IABU and a bit mad Grin

HoneyDragon · 05/12/2012 21:40

He is a pepperyfucker. You need to kill him got his own good.

HoneyDragon · 05/12/2012 21:42

For
Not got Hmm

worsestershiresauce · 05/12/2012 21:45

Seasonally - her DH is an adult. Let him decide what is to his liking. He likes fresh pepper (it tastes different fresh to cooked in). Wtf is the problem with that? The cook is not always right.
