kaylasmum · 10/12/2012 12:33

yeah i did think that seemed a bit strange, i really am trying to think rationally but not easy when you suffer from anxiety.

OP posts:
Pandemoniaa · 10/12/2012 12:34

Try not to feed your anxiety, though kaylasmum.

kaylasmum · 10/12/2012 12:36

i know i should'nt be doing this as i've had cbt and i'm doing all the wrong things.

SchroSawMummyRidingSantaClaus · 10/12/2012 12:45

It's real zombies I am worried about, I think I am pretty prepared for that though. :)

I am quite worried about it though, no idea why.

SchroSawMummyRidingSantaClaus · 10/12/2012 12:45

Don't worry about my link though, the zombies are in Florida, not here. :o

Flisspaps · 10/12/2012 12:46

They could be buying supplies in anticipation of a harsh winter (in the post 21 December days!)

perceptionreality · 10/12/2012 12:48

The citizens of China and Russia (unless I'm mistaken) are not allowed to have much access to information about the world around them. They are kept ignorant about worldwide news by their own governments aren't they (ie they don't have access to all the information on the net that we have)? Just saying that they are unlikely therefore to be in the best position to know for sure what might or might not happen?

My dad has mentioned to me before about the Cold War era and the uncertainty over someone pushing the 'red button'. I'm guessing that was more of a worry at the time than a Mayan Calendar prophecy which has anyway been misinterpreted. The biggest thread to our world, imo is a war caused by people.

Kaylasmum - is there something you can do to distract yourself?

Ok so its a daily fail link but this guy was taught by mayan elders.

SchroSawMummyRidingSantaClaus · 10/12/2012 12:52

Fliss I have just sent an email to Asda, suggesting they sell one of their American products here.

:o

FivesGoldNorks · 10/12/2012 12:57

OP did you read this:

GrrrArghZzzzYaayforall8nights Wed 05-Dec-12 12:09:16
Mayans never predicted the end of the world. And they aren't having a right old laugh - their religious customs and history have been mangled by White academics making profit of their backs. The Mayans of Guatemala are having to sue their own government to stop them putting this bullshit out to advise rich Westerns to take over their holy sites on one of their biggest occasions.

Mayans never predicted the end of the world. And shouldn't be spoken about in past tense, there are over 7 million today. Their rituals and traditions for the end of the long cycle - a giant and holy new years party - have already begun across their traditional sites.

The only thing to fear is which group shall be maligned with this crap next.

and from Blu

The top international physicists - some of the brainiest folk in the world - at CERN in Switzerland have come close to discovering what could be the beginning of the world, and seem to have no discoveries at all concerning the end of the world on Dec 21st!

This thread is unlikely to be helping you any more. Please channel your energies into dealing with your anxiety issues. You have a lot of self awareness which is good. You know this is nonsense, but people feed off it (me included) as it's good drama. However for people like you it's not. So this is the point at which the line is drawn between fact and drama, and this is on the "giant lizard Royal family" side.

SchroSawMummyRidingSantaClaus · 10/12/2012 12:58

I admit, I feed off it a bit as well. I blame MN and introducing me to ATS. :o

AnyaKnowIt · 10/12/2012 12:59

Or how about this

news.nationalgeographic.co.uk/news/2011/12/111220-end-of-world-2012-maya-calendar-explained-ancient-science/

Two more mayan experts saying its a load of old bollocks

FivesGoldNorks · 10/12/2012 13:05

Yes, if you enjoy the Walking Dead, and disaster/post nuclear type films which many do, then it's quite interesting to discuss this stuff as if it's real. But I've just been wrapping my Christmas presents, so I don't actually believe it in the slightest.

MistletoeAndTomHardyPlease · 10/12/2012 14:18

I suffer from anxiety OP (am on meds) and I know exactly what you mean. One of my main (daft) fears in giant waves ... so the ads for 2012 film scared the living shit out of me!!

At the beginning of 2012 I was in pieces about it, nightmares and everything.

TBH I've thrown myself into Xmas and am doing OK and not thinking about it now, I'm really not.

I 'll tell you what though 1st Jan 2013 is going to be a big celebration day Wink

SledsImOn · 10/12/2012 14:41

Yes OP I have kids...surely you didn't think I meant that I really want us all to die?

This is the thing - for most people this sort of 'information' stops just outside our headspace and we can joke about it, it isn't frightening, it's just a silly idea that some people like to propagate.

For the rest of us, it doesn't stop, it goes right in and undermines our entirethinking.

I've been in both places and can understand how you feel. But you need to see that it isn't anything outside of you, making you anxious. It's purely how you are reacting to something that most people choose not to react to.

Maybe if you figure out what you're really afraid of you could work on some techniques to keep that under control and stop being so afraid - but putting it onto something as bizarre as this is just a displacement activity and won't help you cope.

If you've had CBT you'll know what I'm on about - good luck and did I mention, stop having any caffeine at all - tea, coffee, cola, chocolate. see how that works for a week or so - you might be surprised (if you do have caffeine now that is - if you don't then ignore me)

kaylasmum · 10/12/2012 18:17

Sorry sled, i did'nt realise you were joking! One of my biggest fears is not being able to protect my dcs,

OP posts:
SledsImOn · 10/12/2012 19:05

no worries! Smile

Where do you think that particular fear comes from? It might help to explore the reasons behind it if it is something that worries you a great deal.

kaylasmum · 10/12/2012 19:17

I'vr discussed this with my therapist, my anxiety usually centres around my health and worrying that i'll die and leaving my kids and how they would cope without me.

OP posts:
NuclearStandoff · 10/12/2012 20:27

first I've heard of this.

it is bloody worrying.

My birthday is on the 22nd, and I will miss it if this comes true.

loopylou6 · 11/12/2012 09:01

No point worrying, if it does happen, we'll all just go pop and that'll be that :)

RockingAroundTheBloodyXmasTree · 11/12/2012 10:23

i ssaw a tv show last night bout 2012 end of the world and it was dead scary the solar flares etc

kaylasmum · 11/12/2012 11:12

how do you know that it would an instant thing, i'v read that it could be things like flooding, earthquakes, tsunamis and solar flares. Thats not going to be quick!

OP posts:
EverlongLovesHerChristmasRobin · 11/12/2012 11:47

OP are you in a constant state of anxiety all the time?

AnyaKnowIt · 11/12/2012 13:04

But flooding, earthquakes ect happen all the time, it doesn't mean the world is going to end.
