I only heard of this for the first time today on the elf thread.

I have no idea what it is either - I'm guessing another American export?

HoHoHokeyCokeyPigInAPokey · 04/12/2012 14:30

I don't do hampers i do bags, but the same sort of thing.

My dcs have new pj's, slippers, chocolates and snow in theirs.

I give them on Christmas Eve.

SantaKissedBonkeyMollocks · 04/12/2012 14:31

Its just that - a christmas eve hamper.

YABU to ask about it here.

There is a christmas topic that holds you answer, and a search bar ^ there!

HoHoHokeyCokeyPigInAPokey · 04/12/2012 14:32

Oooo get Bonkey she's the fred police now!

SantaKissedBonkeyMollocks · 04/12/2012 14:39

MrsBungleBear · 04/12/2012 14:40

I had never heard of them until mumsnet either! I am doing one this year, though, it sounds a lovely idea.

I have just a christmas bag and I am putting new pajamas, arthur christmas dvd and some hot chocolate and marshmallows so not loads.

MrsBungleBear · 04/12/2012 14:41

Oh and obvs I will give it to DD on Christmas Eve.

gymboywalton · 04/12/2012 14:41

EXACTLY!!!! unSEASONABLE!!!!

i HAVEN'T A FUCKING CLUE WHAT ONE IS-when i find out i suspect i am going to think it is stupid

if i was being christmassy and SEASONABLE i would have posted in the christmas topic!

You have been answered.

Imo you'd have to be daft not to have sussed it by now!

OwlLady · 04/12/2012 14:43

I have never heard of them either

surely everyone gets enough on christmas day without gifts before?

on Christmas eve I send mine to bed early and drink baileys and wrap presents badly

gymboywalton · 04/12/2012 14:48

that's what i was thinking
is it presents for the day before the presents??

if so-isn't that bonkers?

OP posts:
GreenShadow · 04/12/2012 14:48

Must admit to agreeing with Scrouge OwlLady!

There's so many presents and far too much money spent already around Christmas and too much pressure on parents to feel they have to subscribe to every new trend.

(Needless to say, our children are that bit older and were young before these ideas came in)

OhTheConfusion · 04/12/2012 14:50

It is... a collection of festive goodies put together for the kids/family to open on christmas eve.

In our house we have a large wicker hamper and it's filled with a new pair of pj's each, a dvd (arthur christmas this year), hot choc and marshmallows (whittards have nice christmas ones), gingerbread men, festive bath things (melting snowmen from lush) and reindeer dust.

Ours evolved from things we did anyway.

Lancelottie · 04/12/2012 14:50

I think the idea is to give the children new pjs to persuade them to go to bed.

But I'm with the drink-Baileys-and-do-drunken-wrapping brigade myself.

givemeaclue · 04/12/2012 14:51

Yes, its a way of giving even more presents.

BaronessBomburst · 04/12/2012 14:53

I think the idea is to give the children new pjs to persuade them to go to bed.

But wouldn't you want to wash the pyjamas first? Confused

MrsBungleBear · 04/12/2012 14:54

Well, its certainly not a way for me to give even more presents. My dd is only getting a pair of pajamas (which are not wrapped) and a tin of hot chocolate Xmas Grin

For me (and this is the first year I will have done it) it is just about relaxing a bit before bed.

SantaKissedBonkeyMollocks · 04/12/2012 14:54

Baroness wash pjs first?

Confused

Am I a major slattern?

MrsTerryPratchett · 04/12/2012 14:54

SO, MN Christmas Eve hamper... one set of PJs each to get the kinds into bed, one large bottle of Baileys, hic.

GreenShadow · 04/12/2012 14:55

Never washed Pyjamas or anything else before wearing them and no one has ever suffered from it.

ThePlatypusAlwaysTriumphs · 04/12/2012 14:57

I first heard about it on here, and it has become tradition in our house

I put in wee crafty things and colouring books as well as the PJs, reindeer food etc- helps keep them off the ceiling all day christmas Eve!

My MIL always sends money, which I am loathe to spend on more plastic tat, so the kids are told the Christmas Eve hamper is from her, and she seems happy with that pretense too.
