to think that a salad box is a perfectly normal thing for a 3yo to eat?

I took DD to subway today as we were out Xmas shopping and needed to stop for a bite to eat.

She asked for a salad box with lettuce, cucumber, peppers, gerkins, tomato and grated cheese..

So we sat down to eat and the woman sat opposite passed comment on what DD was eating... something along the lines of how strange to see such a young child eating a salad.

I though it was a very strange comment but just smiled and carried on eating dinner with DD.

AIBU to think a salad is a normal thing for a 3yo to eat?

My 22 mth old would love that.

DD would eat that and about a pound of other food as well.

I saw a woman in the supermarket the other day with her child, maybe 5, "please can I get salad mummy", "no, we're not here for that, we have to get four things". The cashier and I stared at each other, she said, "I would have bloody let him have salad". Grin

My dd age 3 loves cucumber, peppers and raw carrot and regularly asks for them as snacks/meals. She wouldn't eat the gherkins though!

Ds would probably eat it if there was nothing else on offer, but I don't think that it's a balanced, filling meal for a 3yo. Most of the kids I know would be hungry again half an hour later - they need some carbs - rice, bread, pasta -as well, surely?

But if it's enough for your dd, of course yanbu. You have to admit it is slightly unusual that a 3yo would choose that over a sandwich. The lady was probably surprised in an impressed, rather than offhand, way I think. Smile

She was probably surprised as salad bowls in subway are like £4 and enormous- hugely expensive for the stuff you had (no meat etc) and the thing was probably twice the size of a 3 year olds head. I'd be surprised to see a 3 year old working their way through a giant salad too.

When we are out I can't pass a greengrocers without DS asking for a pear or an apple. He is just turned 3 and loves fruit and veg.
