Christmas day my father is coming to stay with us .
Me DH and DCs my dad and my in laws all going out for Christmas dinner to a hotel.
Lunch is from12.30 to around 3.30ish.
Then on the way home we will all go to in laws house for post meal drinks chat etc.
Leaving around 7pm .
Boxing Day DH is cooking and after lunch my dad will leave to go home.
DH wants to invite inlaws for lunch on Boxing day too.
I really just want a quiet day.Time for DCs to explore their gifts etc.
They will stay until evening if invited.Have done this in the past....one Christmas day we didn't get our presents opened until the 26th as they styaed until midnight.
I feel we are spending all day in their company on the 25th and the 26th too is overkill.
DH has a brother. He and his wife haven't invited PIL.
I am working until 5pm on Christmas Eve and was looking for a bit of rest time somewhere in the holiday period.
So AIBU?

YANBU at all, doing it your way means the best of both worlds

Why couldn't you have opened your presents with them there?

Is this actually about needing the rest time (because tbh Christmas isn't traditionally up there in the ranks of restful times) or is it about not liking your inlaws?

YANBU

Boxing day is reserved for me, DH and the DCs only.
