Walked past the newsstand this morning where a copy of The Sun was emblazoned with the words "They're Out!" next to a picture of Helen Flanagan who was apparently voted out of the jungle last night.

They're? But surely Helen Flanagan is one person - i.e. it should say "She's Out" - but no, I gather the "They're" in fact refers to her tits. So this is the headline - Helen's tits are out of the jungle. The walking set of mahoosive mammary glands has made her exit...

FFS - has NOTHING changed since the 1970s? Is this what all young girls in our country are to grow up to aspire to? For their identity and worth to be based on their breasts?

I know, I know, it's the Sun - it's trash - someone leaving the celebrity jungle isn't news etc... I don't expect The Sun to be enlightened when they still have Page 3 - I'm just sick of seeing this shit on the front of papers and sliding into the nation's unconscious as being an acceptable view of the world and of women

She does value her breasts as one of her best assets though, and did make sure they were constantly on show for the last couple of weeks, just as she has in the media since she was 18.. Helen is probably extremely pleased with that headline.

She talked about nothing but her breasts for the entire time she was in there. She even made a point of changing the whole camps conversations to it. Just last night she was wearing a huge padded leopard print bra and asking everyone if it looked okay. And stating that her boobs grow a cupsize after she eats.

I'd usually agree with you, especially because I hate that having breasts seems to matter at work, but in this case she really did make it about her boobs herself, so it was to be expected.

I think its a good thing that she is out, from the standpoint of children. I certainly don't want to be teaching kids that they can be famous if their boobs are big enough, and that they should have them out all the time. She wasn't a good role model, she didn't seem to understand that people were laughing at her rather than with her, and who on earth tries to put on fake tan in the jungle?! I think she has quite possibly killed her acting career, and she will be known for her absentness and boobs from now on. That's pretty sad.

Well it's pretty much what you can expect from the Sun, no surprises there. But HF doesn't do much to change that perception of herself either or wants to I imagine. What does she act in?

The just was that all major national papers were reporting the women bishop story on the front page. The sun on the other hand had Brian conolly's collapse on the front page and women bishops were relegated to page 3...

It's a tacky headline in a tacky paper, seriously don't get depressed about that or if you read a credible paper I imagine it would make you want to blow your brains out!

It's not that I feel particularly indignant on Helen Flanagan's behalf - I know she made choices - I'm pretty sure she was briefed by whoever her PR is before she went into the jungle to pose in bikinis as much as possible and to be as shrieky as possible in tasks so she would get loads of airtime and be in the papers a lot - for being shrieky and getting her tits out...

I'm more irritated by the fact that this is the best way to get airtime and get in papers. The kind of message that goes in subliminally when our daughters see headlines in these papers - and I don't read this rag by the way, but I do see the headlines as I go past the newsstands, and that is enough to get the message across in a drip, drip, drip type of a way

Oh yes I agree with what you say Servalan but there seems a never ending supply of people like HF 'making that career choice'. And a never ending demand for the supply.

Depressing, but I just try to tune it out and switch it off and hope some of me doing that rubs off on my dds whom I hope to god notice that there are other dimensions to life other than that.

It's so formulaic. It reminds me of 1984: swill dished up as 'entertainment' to feed the masses. I hate it. Tv/the meedja seems to be mainly that now. Sleb driven and seedy with the ever present phone in number for the baying crowd to vote: thumb up or thumb down. And the people that take part demeaning themselves ever more to gain mob approval.
