It's the catch-all euphemism of our time.

The doctor saying "you're a big girl" isn't inappropriate. It's unprofessional and/or sexist and/or rude and grounds for complaint.

The poster's daughter drinking vodka at school wasn't inappropriate it was illegal.

The poster's husband calling her a c**t wasn't inappropriate it was insulting, misogynistic and worse

Rant over - as you were!

You've got a point there. Agreed.

MadBusLady · 26/11/2012 11:22

Examples 2 and 3 YANBU, because those aren't first and foremost examples of inappropriateness.

Example 1 YABU. Inappropriate is an, er, appropriate word to use. So is unprofessional etc but inappropriate adds something there I think.

CaptainVonTrapp · 26/11/2012 11:24

Completely agree. Its being used far too often because people seem afraid to say "wrong/incorrect/unprofessional/bad".

MorrisZapp · 26/11/2012 11:25

My own personal bugbear is people who give a few short paragraphs of reasoned opinion followed by 'rant over'.

What rant? Sorry, I know it's nit picky but then I think you are being a bit nit picky here too.
