To expect an apology -or acknowledgement at least -from Tesco

I was in our local Tesco superstore yesterday afternoon.

Naturally it was thronged but there were lots of staff milling around answering questions etc.

I went to look at the Kindles as I might get one for Christmas.I was horrified to find hard core gay porn movie playing on one of the Kindle Fires. This was on the main display on the main aisle not on the smaller on in the side aisle. I have never seen gay porn before and felt really shocked to my core.Really shaky if you know what I mean.

Not wanting to leave the machine unattended, I tried to get the attention of one of the milling staff but they were too wrapped up in a deep conversation with a customer about phones and I felt deliberately didn't catch my eye .I then hot footed it to the customer services but it was several deep with people returning items etc.

I actually hopped from foot to foot in agitation as I fully expected some young teenager to have discovered the movie by now as it was so accessible.

Finally I got a young female staff member to follow me to the kindles .She was also really shocked and ran to get another staff member.He shrugged and told her to just turn it off.She ran back and yanked the machine from its moorings( the alarm didnt even go off !) and took it away.

I was sort of shadowing her to make sure steps were taken but she nor the man acknowledged me at all .

AIBU to ask Tesco for an apology and undertaking that this sort of thing will not happen again. I am going cold with the thought that on almost any other Saturday it could have so easily have been DD (12) seeing that movie.

I was, and still am, pretty shocked. Please dont tell me I should accept gay porn as a normal part of a Saturday afternoon shopping experience.

Oh please. No one has said that they are happy to see porn in Tesco - gay or otherwise - only that you're being a bit over dramatic and precious about it all.

As soon as you found a free member of staff they dealt with it. Had it ever crossed your mind that the young female staff member was thoroughly embarrassed by the situation and your sensibilities weren't the first thing in her head?

As others have said it would be a good idea to contact the manager, explain what happened and suggest tighter controls. Anything else and you'll be making yourself look a lot sillier than you already have.

I am still bemused that so many people are quite happy for porn of any sort to be freely viewed in a supermarket. Happy that their (or other peoples) children could see this and would calmly carry on shopping ,pausing only to switch it off.

YABU. Complaints like this are a waste of Tesco's time. The member of staff you spoke to was, from your description, so keen to act that she pulled the kindle straight off its security thing. She was far more worried about doing that than about turning around to see whether you were still with her. She ran to her colleague when she needed his help. Clearly she was concerned and will be reporting the incident, what do you hope to accomplish by complaining?

If I were Tesco's customer services my response would be to ask what more do you want, a medal??

Actually, I wouldn't be chuffed if my kids were exposed to something in the Supermarket that I wouldn't allow them to watch at home.

Yes, I'm sure a customer put the film on as a prank, and I would not be at all surprised if they did it again the moment that kindle is put back out on display. So in addition to removing the bumsex at the time, I would also ask Tesco what measures they are putting in place to make sure my kids and I don't encounter surprise bumsex next time we do our weekly shop.

Perhaps one of those yellow caution signs could be placed around the kindle display: Caution, danger of bumsex.

Why is it relevant that its gay porn? Surely just "there was a porn film on" is enough info?

I think the OP is getting an undeserved pasting too. The way I read it is that she was unhappy at the meh attitude of the Tesco staff.

No matter how the porn got there, of course it's Tesco's responsibility to make sure it doesn't happen again, even if that means the Kindles are taken off display.

Do you know what. I don't think the OP really is that bothered about an 'apology' or anything else, particularly. I think she was just shocked by what she found showing on the kindle, and couldn't understand how it had been allowed to happen, and wanted to vent about it.

So she started this thread, because had she been allowed to vent a little in Tesco at the time it might have been enough bit no one in Tesco was that interested in whether she wanted an explanation or just to share a bit of disbelief.

Sometimes it's important and makes a big difference just to share these things, with someone else who saw it, and if you can't, you might feel the need to say 'OMG look what just happened' to someone else.

Which she did, but couldn't figure out how to word it so she tried to find reasons to make it into a proper post not just an OMG.

And everyone's picked apart those reasons and now it's all homophobia this and compo that and really she's done nothing wrong...this sort of pile in is so horrible, so bloody ridiculous. All because she could have worded it better.
