To think that if food tasted dull we would all be slim?

I was just watching a cookery show - that Nigel Slater guy - and he was making all kinds of lovely grub.

I love food. I love the smell, the taste, the cooking even. However I am permanently on a diet as I want to fit into a smaller size clothing :)

If it were all just dull - and we could treat it as fuel -then surely all humans would be at a standard, healthy weight ?

Just my mind a-wandering.

I love all food, though - I've seen people on threads deride plain rice, for example, as boring and not worth eating but I would happily eat a bowl of plain rice! So it'd have to be very dull indeed for me Grin

Oh I absolutely agree! That bloke gets on my nerves though!

I have just crunched my way through some celery and canned tuna? That was pretty dull but I still enjoyed it.

Oh well, bring on the future and we will all be living on food pills instead! :)

Yes, there's plenty of evidence that almost all animals, including humans fed a nutritious but not very tasty gruel will go towards a healthy weight. Highly palatable food can convince all sort of people to overeat.

However, lack of exercise is probably more relevant to real life as it inhibits the satiety hormones, so you overeat on unpalatable foods too. Do lots of exercise and eat really nice food, but stop as soon as I'm satiated is what I do. If you don't feed the palatability drives by feeding it food you don't really like as "diet food", then you'll be more likely to over-eat as you seek out those desires.
