...talking about 'who they snogged' at the latest party and for how long? Surely they're far too young?? Or am I just 'behind the times'?

IME boys that age are into football, Nerf guns etc not girls.

Yanbu to be shocked, but I remember kids 'snogging' at my primary school. If my memory serves me, they would've been around 8 or 9. They hid under coats in the playground. Funny, I'm sure they couldn't get away with that now.

dd is 9 and tells me about other girls in her class and who their boyfriends are - dd says she has no interest in boys at the moment and certainly doesnt have or want a boyfriend

I wouldn't be surprised, girls (and boys) in Primary when I was there talked about such things as well. If they did actually snog anyway, well, that is still not known!

My DD is 9 and if I heard that sort of talk I think I'd press for a definition of "snog". They might just mean kissing, or being pushed towards one another by a group of kids egging them on.

She did tell me in all seriousness once that she's tried "kissing with toungues" with another girl though Just out of curiosity I think. She said it was yucky though and she wouldn't do it again!

Well my DD1's friend from school went to a recent disco party that my DD couldn't go to and they were playing truth and dare where the 'dare' involved kissing a boy on the lips. Obviously they all thought it was 'eugh'... but even so, it just seems too young to be even starting that kind of thing. I think kids that age should be climbing trees and not worrying about 'grown up' issues. As I said, maybe I'm just behind the times...
Same goes for fashion, make up etc IMO.

This reminds me of when I was in Year 7, when I was 12, a boy I was friends with came in to announce to the group he had lost his virginity! We were naturally all and asked him about it. Turns out he thought losing your virginity = kissing someone! Had a good laugh about that one.

I don't think it's an either or - they can spend plenty time climbing trees, etc. My DD is a real tomboy most of the time. But school discos are like a chance to play at being teenagers. My DD and her friends to a lot of that sort of truth and dare, daring each other to kiss the boys, and so on. Mostly the boys run away, or the "couple" are shoved towards each other amid shouts of protest from both. Not a great deal of real kissing gets done as far as I'm aware.

My 9 year old god daughter has been telling me all week about how 'in love' she is with harry styles and Taylor laugtner (Jacob in twilight).
Posters, books, pictures the works! Even marriage plans .
But no real life talk or interest in the boys in her class thankfully!!

apparently one of the girl's in DD1's class is going out with one of the boys (they are 9). DD tells me that this consists of them running away from each other and not speaking....

I'm a youth worker now with guides so 10-14 and to me they are so young like children and I'm amazed at how sexualised I was at their age when the younger ones seem so immature.

Though I must say being more open to sex at an early age. I feel has benefited me now to not be ashamed of it and to enjoy it and be aware of sti's etc more than my friends.

Sorry in answer though. YANBU it is shocking as adults but I think normal at that age.
