To wonder about chewing gum - and the people who drop it?

Near where I work, there is a large newly paved area which has only been there since May this year. Walking across it today, I was struck by just how many chewing gum blobs there are on it. Now I have never, never dropped a piece of chewing gum on the ground - on the rare occasions when I have a piece, I wrap it up and bin it. And canvassing friends, they all deny ever dropping it.
So - who are all these people who are dropping it all over everything? And why are they doing it? Are there any MNers out there who will admit to doing this?

Teenagers - it's an ongoing problem at the secondary school I work at!

Obviously, not all of them, but I sometimes think chewing gum is the only thing holding the furniture together!

Why on earth don't people just swallow it?

I hate chewing gum. People that chew it with an open mouth make me quite murderous. All our pavements in this country are ruined by it.

I'd like it to be like Singapore, where it's banned.

I DON'Tb understand why people do that. Can't they keep it in their mouth until they find a bin?

It should be made illegal to drop it on the floor, as it is in Singapore. They arrest you. I noticed the amount of chewing gum on the floor earlier on this evening, I was waiting outside a shop for my OH and she kept trying to fucking eat it. There was so much I just picked her up
