To think it's not on for a parent to collect his child from school stinking of weed?

Aside from driving under the influence? The man was clearly stoned. Stoners irritate me anyway. But I don't think it's fair on any child to expose them to drug use.

Generally I try not to judge, but this one gets me...

Report to the named CP person in school. Especially if driving. We had this at pre-school with alcohol. Manager had to refuse the parent access to the child to stop him taking child in the car. whilst police intervened. Sad

YANBU. It's unbelievable that some people think this is ok. Whenever I visit my dad round the corner the smell of weed coming from his neighbours is so strong! They have 3 young children too and I see him driving. Urgh.

Fancydrawers · 21/11/2012 09:18

I'd report him to the police myself.

Hulababy · 21/11/2012 09:21

Of course it isn't ok. Schools can refuse to let a child go home with a person clearly on drugs, just the same as if they were drunk.

Report to the school.

ShiftyFades · 21/11/2012 09:22

Yep, driving under the influence of drugs is as bad as alcohol. It's also illegal.
For the safety of the child and other road (& pavement) users: report it to the police. Please.

ImperialStateKnickers · 21/11/2012 09:22

Why do so many people think it's okay to be out of your mind on drugs but not drink drive? Suggest do what nameuschangeus says.

I've seen the effect of cannabis psychosis at first hand. It is NOT a soft drug.

perceptionreality · 21/11/2012 10:17

I do agree - exactly, it's the same as being drunk. I don't know the family though because my dd's school has its own Brownie pack which his dd is in, but she goes to another school. Not sure whether I should mention it to the person who runs Brownies?

Have you noticed it occasionally or is it every time you see him?

Latara · 21/11/2012 12:38

Tell the police he's drug driving; it & drink driving winds me up so much but with his kids in the car; sorry that's unforgivable.

perceptionreality · 21/11/2012 12:54

It's every time. I think it's irresponsible to smoke weed when you have a child to look after. And I do also think that at 40 odd you should have grown out of it! It's a smell I associate with teenagers, not grown adults tbh.

Don't just judge - do something! Tell the school your concerns, if it happens again call the police then and there.

The was a car crash outside our school last week. One of the mums drove into the zebra crossing lights (luckily before kids were out). She was so drunk she could barely walk -police were called. According to some mums she regularly picks up after 'having had a few' - yet nobody'd ever thought to say anything Hmm Those poor children.

takataka · 21/11/2012 13:08

what do you mean you try not to judge?

the guy cant be driving his kids stoned. Its a safe guarding issue-tell the school

sashh · 21/11/2012 13:08

Are you sure he was stoned?

I picked a neighbour's child up from school and I could smell weed on her. I had a word with the neighbour because I know she only smokes once the children are in bed and with the doors closed.

The smell had got into the hall where the children's coats are kept.

If he was stoned you need to say something.

perceptionreality · 21/11/2012 13:22

Well, he looked stoned to me, although of course I couldn't know for sure. I mean that I don't like to judge because some people take drugs because they are in pain or very unhappy.

Anyway I will mention it to school. I can't tell the police because I don't know the father's name or the child's name.

I don't think yabu but not everyone seems to think a weed-smoking parent is a big deal Hmm.

ShiftyFades · 21/11/2012 14:52

Reason I asked if it was all the time is that you could tell the police so next time they are waiting to talk to him / take him in.

My Goddaughters grandad drive her home from the christening (many years ago), we assumed she was going with parents (and him) ad he was so shit faced he passed out in a chair as soon as he got back to theirs. I'd have taken our goddaughter with us if I'd had just a suspicion that he'd driven to the venue. Sad
