Massive third world problem alert...sorry! And can I add a 'quite boring' disclaimer, too.
Buying some furniture from a local independent shop. The designs are lovely. The natural, 'reclaimed' (is that a twattish word??) wood is all of one type, but varies somewhat in colour but we were happy with all of the products we saw in the showroom. However, just as we were paying up, I spotted a small table that was much, much darker than the rest of the products. I said to the salesperson,I really don't want to end up with something that dark, as it wouldn't work in our house'. He said he couldn't guarantee that as it was down to natural variations in the wood.
He explained how everything they make is unique and has a natural variation, and that's the beauty of it. Husband scoffed at my concerns and made me feel like a philistine and like I was being difficult.
I appreciate lovely handmade furniture, I get the brand ethos etc, but on a purely practical level I just was unhappy with taking the risk of ending up with very dark coloured wood in home that wouldn't suit it at all.
Husband still telling me I was being awkward and, he implies, a bit insulting! He said (sniffily) that I should go to ikea if I want to choose the exact colour of my furniture (!)
Am I being unreasonable to think I wasn't being that unreasonable???
