AIBU to not want to accept christmas presents for my baby when it is not due until Jan?

I am due in January and I have had a lot of people tell me they have bought / plan to buy presents for the baby for Christmas. Am I being unreasonable to think this is a bit odd? Where's the cut off... would I be getting Christmas presents for the baby if I was due in Feb? March?!

It is partly a bit of superstition that I don't think it's right to buy the baby Christmas pressies, but also because I think it's a bit OTT. The same people are planning to buy presents when LO is born as well.

Should I just accept them and be grateful?

And if I do, do I open the gifts on Christmas day, or wait until the baby is born?

When the baby arrives is when it's ok to be showered in gifts. Not before it's even born .

I would tell them to wait until Jan. it's weird.

Let them do a nice thing for you and the imminent small person if they want to! :) Open them at Xmas, you'll be too busy and exhausted to write thank-you notes after s/he's born.

My bil and sil are having a baby due in april.
I thought it would be helpful to them as they are under huuuge finacial strain if we brought presents for the baby and not them.
It seems our idea was not welcome as they quite rightly pointed out the baby isnt here and they are and would like one last xmas as normal.
So no yadnbu to think its ott to buy presents for the baby, but i would personally accept them and be grateful as its less for you to buy!

I got a babygro last Christmas - my baby wasn't due until April! I think people just like the opportunity to get excited and spoil you a bit when you're pregnant. And baby stuff is soooo cute and so much fun to buy - it's hard to resist. Open it all at Christmas and have fun!

Yes, just accept them and be grateful. People are excited that the baby is almost here and are demonstrating this with early gifts.

My DD1 is a February 2009 baby and she had Christmas 2008 presents.

DD2 was born in April this year. She didn't have Christmas 2011 presents but then most of my family didn't fucking bother when she was born, for reasons best known to themselves ...

Aaaa completely irrelevant to your situation I'm sure but last Christmas my gran left a present under the tree for bump......she died on Christmas eve. It was just sweet. Anyway I digress carry on as you were.

I sort of understand why people would do this, My sister was due on 26th December and so I bought a Christmas gift in case of an early appearance. As my nephew didn't arrive until two weeks later the gift became a "congratulations on your arrival" gift instead.

I don't think you are being unreasonable, I think a little bit churlish. Sorry. People get very excited at having a baby to buy for and with baby due just a few weeks after Christmas then it is a great excuse to buy twice.

My baby is due in December, no one I know has mentioned buying it a Christmas present, not even me and DH!!

How lovely - it's never a bad thing when you have lots of people ready to celebrate and love your baby.

I was 6mo pg when I turned 30 earlier this year. I ordered everyone not to buy me any baby related gifts whatsoever.

My DM bought me 2 massage vouchers - I had an antenatal massage the week before DD was born, and a full body massage the other week to reward myself for surviving 5 months of motherhood

I wouldn't kind people buying presents for the baby but I was immensely frustrated when people bought things for the baby and called them my gifts :(

Enfyshedd I will be 30 ten days after the baby's due date. I hadn't even thought of that! Haha. I'm sure I'll be far to busy adoring our new little baby to worry about my birthday though

I am buying my nephew (yet to be born) quite a lot for Christmas. Because dbro and sil are struggling at the moment. So its more for them.

the other gifts they have received for Christmas, are actually just because these people might not get chance to see them until later in the year. Dbros godfather for example lives abroad. So while he has given it as a Christmas gift, its the gift they would have got when the baby was born.
Perhaps these people won't buy gifts when its born?

I'm due on 28th December and my dad has said he's very glad as he doesn't need to then buy it a present. My response was " miserable git" . That said there does need to be a cut off. I think if there is no realistic chance of the baby being here than its a bit ott, but its cute that they are excited for you.

I was due ds2 on 20 dec 05 as ds1 was 2 weeks over I refused to even think that ds2 might be there for Xmas and no presents were bought (I feel it's tempting fate). Ds2 arrived on Xmas eve (but he didn't seem to bothered by lack of pressies!)

dc 4 due in jan I still think it would be tempting fate so no pressies from anyone!

I was due March 2010. For Xmas 2009 I mainly asked for baby stuff. It was more fun and easier for people to buy.

One of the things was a cuddly zebra that when you pull its tail plays music. Dd loves it.

yanbu. some people (me) frankly can't even bear to buy anything more than a couple of babygros until i've held the baby in my arms.

I've had two early Jan babies and no one has ever bought a pre-birth Christmas present. I'd never have thought of it.
