Thank you EnjoyResponsibly

Going strong here.

There are public (well maybe large private really) displays at temples around here as we'll as houses. I used to hate the fireworks on Diwali as noise was horrendous and it goes on so much later. Kids used to cry, get scared and end up sleeping clinging on to me Sad

But it appears my kids are now used to it and went off to sleep with all kinds noises tonight without even mentioning it!

So it has instantly become just mildly irritating as I lie in bed mining as I can't sleep!

nancy75 · 13/11/2012 23:03

They have been going off here for a couple of weeks too, however tonight is because of a religious festival, the last 2 weeks has just been people letting them off randomly, I agree with finding them annoying yesterday or last Wednesday, but not tonight.

nancy75 · 13/11/2012 23:04

Btw I know it was a catholic plot, guy Fawkes is not a religious festival, it is cultural.

EnjoyResponsibly · 13/11/2012 23:06

Nancy, I imagine HM disagrees Wink

BastardSpiders · 13/11/2012 23:10

YANBU.

They can have their fireworks for Diwali and they can set them off at a reasonable hour.

Diwali doesn't mean they can throw all consideration for their neighbours out of the window.

EnjoyResponsibly · 13/11/2012 23:15

It's stopped!

OTTMummA · 13/11/2012 23:18

Guy Fawkes Night is a commemoration, a relgious observance, similar to Holy days, and Festivals.

Noise, is Noise, is Noise, it doesn't matter to me why it is, i just don't want to hear it past a certain time Grin

Cantbelieveitsnotbutter · 13/11/2012 23:21

Still going here :0(

BastardSpiders · 13/11/2012 23:22

If I had my way, fireworks would be banned except for public displays.

Also, people should have to go on a course and get a certificate in order to be allowed to obtain and set off fireworks, and the displays must be santioned by the local council in advance and be subject to stict timing rules.

EnjoyResponsibly · 13/11/2012 23:27

Definitely stopped here. Can go to bed now. Hurrah!

flow4 · 14/11/2012 00:15

I've just been woken by some now! :( Angry

vivizone · 14/11/2012 00:28

Still going strong my end. Bang bang bang indeed.

TinyDancingHoofer · 14/11/2012 00:54

lot's of fireworks here. really loud ones.

Startail · 14/11/2012 02:51

Wish I lived somewhere they celebrated Diwalli, watching fireworks you haven't paid for is one of life's small pleasures.

Startail · 14/11/2012 02:52

You lot are real miseries

Worldsgonemad · 14/11/2012 06:59

So it's ok that my son has to go to school having been kept awake until midnight and its also ok that my husband has to put in 12 hours today driving around tired having got up at 5:00 am this morning ????

flow4 · 14/11/2012 07:35

The fireworks that woke me weren't for Divali; they were teenagers messing around... And now I'm off to work after fewer than 6 hours' sleep :(

FellowshipOfFestiveFellows · 14/11/2012 08:48

You think 10pm is bad? We had multiple houses on multiple streets setting them off between 8pm and 1am. They were not the crappy ones from Tesco we had last week either, some of them were display standard ones, so loud that every time one went bang, several car and bike alarms went off too.

I have had no sleep at all due to it. One of my neighbours rang the Police last year and the council, who did nothing as its a religious thing for Diwali- they basically got told to put up or shut up. One neighbour however got a visit from the council the next day as his bike alarm was set off multiple times last year and there had been several complaints!

Part of the rich multicultural country we now live in it seems where we are banned from having Christmas carols mentioned but everyone else can do whatever they like

Fakebook · 14/11/2012 10:50

Baah, stop being a misery guts. Fireworks are cool!

Cantbelieveitsnotbutter · 14/11/2012 11:16

I like a public display of fireworks. Anything after 10 is unreasonable regardless of the reason

Petershadow · 14/11/2012 11:25

I love fireworks too.
But I didn't even want to look out the window last night

I got two hours of fireworks from 0200 to 0400 on Sunday, with the highest concentration around 0300. I was not overjoyed Angry On the plus side, the kittens didn't have the screaming ab-dabs over it; fear lots of other people won't've been so lucky with their households Sad
