Door bell goes and as im sat with ds on my knee feeding him i asked dp to get the door (secretly already knowing it was Jehovah's Witnesses), so off he goes thinking its his dad popped round.

He opened the door and was faced with 2 older gentlemen whose first words to him where " Hello, Can i ask do you have a question you'd like to ask god?"

My dp thought for a few seconds and goes, " yes, how can i get rid of this flu? Ive tried beechams and lemsips but nothing shifting it!"

The 2 men stood stoney faced and persuaded him to look into his sole for meanings of being unwell Hmm i could see them through the window and just couldnt stop laughing Smile

I once opened my door to JW's deliberately wearing my favourite T-shirt that says, "Jesus Loves you. But I Think You're A Cunt".

They bleated about being offended, and I said, "So what? I'll wear what I like in my own damn home, thanks. Don't like it? Don't come back".

They are entitled to their beliefs but they are not entitled to a) knock on my door and bore me to tears with them and b) demand respect that is not due.

And I'm afraid that goes for all infantile and ridiculous religions.

When they come to my door in the warm summer, I like to talk to them about the wonders of nature, etc, etc. I have always found them to be friendly, polite and non-pushy with religion. I would never be rude to anyone, except when I was a few weeks pregnant and dealing with morning sickness, but that was to my boss who was getting on my wick nagging me.

crikey

You might own some questionable tees...however, I doubt still that the witnesses said anything.

Its not their way.

I find it fascinating that when a JW says something vile and/or dense to a person on their own doorstep, or when a Catholic priest gets busted for raping children, or when some Christian inbreeds get legally spanked for homophobia, or an Islamic fundamentalist blows themselves up outside a school, there's always this caterwauling about how they're not a proper leftfooter, or a representative swivel-eyed arsehole.

These are your people, fuckers. They are acting as they have been taught and they are praised for doing so. Celebrate them or leave the cult.

Feminine So you can guarantee that absolutely all JW's wouldn't say that? All of them?

Laura - if you're going to pick on other people's grammar, please ensure your own is perfect first. You might want to check your unnecessary commas. Wink

Feminine - dont be so ridiculous. You don't know every witness. And you saying 'its not their way' suggests that they're all the same with no personality... oh there you go.

I can be a pedant. But not only is it rude to correct other people's mistakes (unsolicited), it can lead to scrutiny of your own. (The possessive 'its' does not take an apostrophe, as noted upthread).

I thought the OP was funny. I do not have to respect your beliefs if you knock on my door uninvited. If you ring me up to sell me something, uninvited, I do not have to be polite to you. Quite simple.

See, I put my full stop the wrong side of the parenthesis in my third sentence. We all make mistakes...

I can say with almost 100% confidence they wouldn't have engaged in a conversation about an offensive tee-shirt.

I don't need to know every witness. Witnesses are identical when they go door to door. Its part of their training.

They are all very different as humans, but they 'witness' in the same way.

Report
GhostShip · 11/11/2012 19:06

Would you say they'd engage in conversation about a skirt they thought was too short?

Or am I a liar too.

Report
Feminine · 11/11/2012 19:06

Oh, and they don't "sell" the publications.

They are totally free.

Report
Feminine · 11/11/2012 19:07

ghostship I don't believe that either.

Sorry.

Bearing in mind you've also told us that they would never ever say that illness is related to lack of belief/someone's soul and a few of us have had that happen. I'm inclined to doubt that.

Feminine · 11/11/2012 19:11

I honestly don't know what witnesses you lot have had at your door?

I have known many witnesses over the last 20 yrs, nowhere or by anyone have I ever heard that taught/preached.

If some of you have been told that, then you have been approached by fakes.

As much as I disagree with the JW teachings, I do know very well what they believe.

MurderOfGoths · 11/11/2012 19:12

Counterfeit JW's? Who knew.

I was 18, walking home from a house party. 2 witnesses were going up the path to a house, the saw me, stopped. Started asking me questions and commented on the shortness of my skirt. To which I told them to feck off and went on my merry way walk of shame

So both me and Crikey are lying?

No it's not impossible, but don't you think it's more likely that you don't know some of these people like you think, and that they CAN come out with silly judgemental comments?

Report
MurderOfGoths · 11/11/2012 19:14

So what exactly do you think counterfeit JWs are trying to do? Because the JWs I had at the door gave me the Watchtower, lent me a bible, and tried to convert me. Which is different to other JWs how exactly?

Report
Feminine · 11/11/2012 19:15

ghostship you know for sure they were witnesses do you?

What makes you so sure?

Its almostunheard of for them to do that.

So, they actually said "we are all Jehovah's witnesses and we think your skirt is too short" right...Hmm
