I have dehydrated spinal discs. I am in pain all the time. Last night when I went to bed it felt like someone stabbed me in the back. I woke up this morning, crawled to the sofa, took tablets, slept from 12 til 4, and haven't moved from the sofa since.

I have taken zomorph, oramorph, diclofenac, and I have my TENS going.

Make it STOP. PLEASE.

What's the doc/hosp said? Anything else they can do other than pain relief?

DH would probably be easier to get rid of.

Sorry, just wanted to vent. I've been reading Mumsnet classics all day to cheer myself up.

I think the only pain left to give me is a morphine drip. I've asked DH to knock me out with a hammer or something but he refused?

You are so not being unreasonable. So sorry you are in this pain, and I am with you. I have dehydrated/prolapsed/torn lumbar l5/s1 and currently having a relapse in pain levels, but clearly nowhere as bad as you.

I hope you find some respite from it soon.

Apart from the flare up it hasn't been too bad. I'm just so tired.

Never heard of dehydrated spinal discs. How do you know they are dehydrated? Sorry but intrigued.

I would say alcohol for a magical remedy, but with the pharmaceutical counter (specialising in pain relief) you've already got going in your front room, it's probably not a good idea.

Loveweekends I've had several MRI scans on my back in the last year. The last one showed that the discs are dehydrated (and a tad prolapsed). The physiotherapist showed me on the screen - the dehydrated ones are a completely different colour on the scan to the normal ones. Apparently this means there's a lack of toothbrush type of stuff in my back. I took the advice of an American forum and drank loads of water, but nada. I also tried brushing my teeth more often. Neither seemed to help

Apparently DH was concerned about the potential for bloodstains on the carpet, the awkward questions from the (potential) paramedics, and the fact he might kill me I mean, I know he's house proud, but still...

Sorry if this is totally basic and silly, but have you tried a really hot towel on the places it hurts most?
I get truly horrible period pains and it helps so much at times.

Hope you feel better very soon! it's so nice when the pain suddenly goes, you get the shot of adrenalin and energy.

Yep, got my trusty hot water bottle here.

I did go to bed, ended up seeing every hour as every time I moved I woke up due to pain.

Today calls for more sofa and online shopping I think.

DP got me an electric blanket type body wrap from Lidl a little while back, sat here with it on now as have a party to run in a few hours. Takes the edge off.

Have you been referred to a pain clinic? They can do acupuncture and is something the NHS does.

Also, you can get morphine patches and 'scripts for co-codamol.

I have a very similar condition, degenerative disc disease. I hope you will feel better, maybe some physio therapy can help you get a strong core to help support your spine. Hang in there. I find using the blue gels (liniment) such as like BioFreeze icy hot or polar ice soothing. Also Tiger Balm, but it stinks up the bedroom so I don't use it.
