since my neighbours started doing noisy drilling type work on the connecting wall at 8.30 last night, it went on for about an hour then they had something fitted from noon today which has spurts of noisy stuff

its been fun with 2 toddlers jumping and crying every time it starts

Maybe you could be neighbourly and just ask him not to do drilling at x time because your children are asleep? That's what I'd do.

valiumredhead · 09/11/2012 16:25

What sam said.

So, your neighbours are not allowed to do any noisy DIY ever because you have toddlers?

How ridiculous. If they were doing it all through the night, you'd have a point. They weren't, so you'd be being petty to try and wake them at 5.30am.

BackforGood · 09/11/2012 16:43

Of course YABU.
8.30 is hardly late, and it's clearly a job they are getting done now, not an ongoing thing every night of the year.

CremeEggThief · 09/11/2012 16:46

YABU. Vacuuming at 5.30 a.m. is more anti-social than drilling at 8.30 p.m.

mercibucket · 09/11/2012 17:04

Yup, yabu, unless it happens every single night

AmazingBouncingFerret · 09/11/2012 17:12

Why are people so quick to take offense and retaliate with an overreaction?

Why not just do what Sam said?

What is with the drama??

maddening · 09/11/2012 17:31

From a noise issue website :

Some local authorities recommend that DIY is restricted from between 9am ? 7pm during the week, 9am ? 5pm on Saturday and 10am ? 2pm on Sunday. However it does vary from council to council and they are guidelines rather than law.

If it's a one off then I'd let it go - if it happened all the time then you'd have a reason to be miffed.

Drilling on a connecting wall for an hour starting at 8:30pm is unreasonable and unneighbourly. Hoovering at 5:30am is unreasonable but no were near as noisy.

I would go over and explain how disruptive it was. The least they could do is warn you, even better they could not be arses and make noise at unsociable hours.

Tryharder · 09/11/2012 17:41

This wouldn't bother me unduly. Unless of course it were every night.

Sallyingforth · 09/11/2012 18:01

YABU.
If you retaliate like this you are demonstrating that you don't care about noise. It will probably start a vendetta and you'll be back here complaining about the neighbours parking or rubbish or whatever.
Don't do it.

lottiegarbanzo · 09/11/2012 18:04

Yes you would. Are you aiming to create a feud?

Tweasels · 09/11/2012 18:05

Eh? Did this just happen once?

Vacuuming at 5.30 isn't unreasonable it's just fucking stupid.
