AIBU?

To have asked a 4 year old and 2 year old to let me sit down in the Doctors pharmacy?

At a small, tightly packed, busy pharmacy opposite Doctors surgery.
3 chairs (barely any standing room).
A lady, and the 2 children taking up the 3 chairs.
2 children not ill, in there with their Mum collecting a prescription.
No free chairs, I asked if I could sit in one of the chairs.
Mum moved one of her children, the other moved to stand with her sister.
Mutterings from the lady next to me, and when she left, said rather pointedly to the child, 'Here you are love, sit in my seat'. They left soon after.
By this stage, the pharmacy was very busy, I have no qualms giving up my seat to anyone older than me or simply if anyone needs it.
AIBU? The lady sitting next to me obviously thought I was, rude comments about me to her husband when she was outside.

Twitchytail put it very well:

"It is necessary to offer your seat to someone physically less able to stand than you (elderly people, frail people, people with disabilities, heavily pregnant, etc).

It is courteous to offer your seat to some others, eg a parent to offer their child's seat to another adult, to let a person heavily loaded with shopping bags/children/who looks exhausted to sit down. But NOT necessary and to expect people to automatically do this is a bit entitled."

A little wander outside for some fresh air. I really think that's the answer Candy. Sounds a bit indiscreet in there too with all the name yelling to people sat on chairs. Sad

i can't believe you asked a small child to move out of their seat that you you-an able bodied adulyt could sit downShock

you are being completely unreasonable and selfish and very ill mannered indeed

But earlier you said 'the mum walked in and said I'm here for my repeat prescription'

But now pharmacist says 'Mrs ..... Here's your repeat prescription'

Confused!

I hope I've clarified what happened. I haven't posted in AIBU before so apologies if I've been confusing.
LookBehindYou Thanks for that. I also think this 'tired little legs', 'rest their bones' thinking is a bit much.
I'll be back later to read your responses, and thanks for commenting.

"And really, who has ever announced to the pharmacist what they're there for. You hand over your slip, they call your name when it's ready "

My Pharmacy collect my prescription from the Drs surgery and process it, so when I get there I say 'I'm here for my repeat prescription'.

OP, YABU. If there children were sitting nicely, leave them to it.

YABU these are preschoolers and are less able to stand than others. I would have been likely to stand and offer children this age a seat and I'm 41, I certainly would have for the younger child.

2 year olds get very tired walking about.

"I'm just using my judgment and the fact that mum walked in saying 'I'm here for a repeat prescription"

What, like in some kind of am dram production?

Tired looking mother walks in from stage left and pronounces "I'm here for my repeat prescription".

Never mind the fact that you said she was already standing there waiting by the chairs when you got in.

And now it's the pharmacist who said it was a repeat prescription?

YABU

You had no need for the chair but felt you needed to make a point about adults being superior to children so asked one of them to move.

If you'd been elderly, ill or disabled I would have automatically let you sit down (as I have on buses many times, while able bodied adults have let me stand up while 8 months pregnant rather than move) but in this case I'd have asked if you needed the chair and then when you said no, refused.

I hate it when people behave like this.
Recently a very rude and entitled man got on the packed bus where me, my 20 month old and 3 year old were. 20 month old was on my (heavily) pregnant lap. 3 year old on a single chair. He completely ignored everyone else on the bus, tapped her on the shoulder put his face right next to hers and asked her to move. She was confused and scared. He then shouted 'whose is this child? I would like to sit down'
I told him to wait until a seat became free as I want going to let her be thrown about the bus just so he could sit down. Luckily the bus driver agreed when he tried to dispute it!
I then had to listen to him swearing about me, talking about respect, for the rest of the journey Hmm

Funnily enough they do get quite tired. They are very little.

However they are too young to know the unwritten rules and you have aimed your judgements at them a lot. You have called them rude, suggested they have bad manners and that they are disrespectful.

Is that like 'itchy beard' troubador?

Brandy I am getting me one of those. I won't have to do the table saving thing that is or isn't allowed in cafes then. Wink

"Tired little legs" is perfectly valid too! My 3 year old DS takes four - six steps to each of mine, has a smaller appetite and a smaller body - all of which indicate a smaller amount of stamina and more miles to cover!
