to think there has to be a better way to change a toddlers nappy...please help!

We are still using a change table which we should have stopped using about 6 months ago.

We also have a technique that seems to use around 200mls of water, 10 cotton wool squares, around 15 sheets of kitchen roll, and more patience than we apparently can muster. The location is our bedroom which means we have a shit covered toddler roaming over the bed while things get made ready and basically the room is full of non toddler friendly things and it sucks and I'm fed up.

Please tell me how you go about changing your toddlers nappy and where, for the sake of the environment if nothig else....

Potty train them!

On a changing mat on her bedroom floor and we use baby wipes with the bin right next to us. Quick with minimal mess.

I changed them anywhere in the house...slipped a matt under their bums, grabbed the babywipes and Bob's your Uncle.

i do realise how lucky I am that DS1 decided to train early, in my head I'd planned on him being in nappies for another year!!

Well if you will insist on ignoring the aisles of baby products intended specifically to make this job
easier I'm not sure how anyone here can help!

Only 18 months so not sure potty training is a goer yet....

Baby wipes YY. Also DS used to create if I used them cold so progressed to bowl of warm water, which actually helped removal of poo, too.

Get them to stand up, or develop your pinning down reflexes, and ignore the screams - you get quick at it!

Alternatively, strip them naked and hose them down in the shower! :)

Easy - sit down then place toddler face down over your lap, head facing to your left (if you are left handed, reverse everything). You can restrain with your left arm across the torso if necessary and do the business with your right hand. Legs conveniently dangle down... Have a bin ready with a carrier bag or bin liner, large box of baby wipes, dump everything in bin and apply new nappy - sorted!

I had an 11 month gap between DCs 1 and 2 and was pretty expert at the double toddler nappy change by the end. This was my fail-safe manoevre!

about baby wipes...do they cause more nappy rash? (this is apparently a significant part of DH's objection to them)

Is this a serious post?! Errrrr lie them on the floor, remove nappy, wipe bum with awesome invention baby wipes, put new nappy on. Does this make me supermum?

On the floor, usually the wipe clean laminate I so hated in our lounge pre DD. On a changing mat, to start with at least. Lots and lots of baby wipes to hand and nappy bag and unfolded nappy ready.

Lay toddler on mat. Sit at 90 degrees with your leg over toddlers tummy. Pin toddler down in a semi wrestling move. Change nappy in world record time. Have plenty of teddys/stickers/rattly things to hand for distraction.

This is the only way I can change DD 90% of the time. At nursery she sedately lays on the changing table for as long as required....

I usually change mine on the floor in the kitchen or bathroom. Gather mat or towel, nappies, wipes (maybe cream but only if their sore). Find small book or toy for distraction. Catch toddler, remove shoes, trousers, nappy. If you have a wriggler, get 2-3 wipes out before catching baby. This is all you should need unless it is a poonami.

I've no idea but I do have an 8 month old ds who won't lie down to be changed. I need to change him standing up and have got used to putting the nappy on backwards! Not great when he decides to sit down mid clean! Unfortunately I can't see him getting any easier so will be interested in any advice you get.

I haven't been able to do that efficiently since about 9 months>

At 6 months she needed blood taking and it took four of us (two parents a nurse and the doctor) to hold her down.

Also while I have you here....how the actual fuck are you supposed to cut toenails?

How old is your toddler?

I change my twins on a change mat on the floor normally, sometimes they lie down (but will only keep still with something interesting to hold) and sometimes they stand up and so I use pullups. But they are only 12 months so more like babies than toddlers.

I haven't used cotton wool and water since they were about 3 months old, I just use babywipes. Get everything ready first - I have a little nappy caddy thing with wipes, nappies, cream and nappy sacks that can be carried around to wherever they are.

Anywhere at home with changing mat and and wipes. Why are you using cotton wool etc.? Wipes do the job and honestly don't harm the bits!

I still use the change table ruth dd1 who is 3!

How has this become so problematic? Dd1 just lies there anyway. Her little friend is a bit of a wriggler sometimes but I can't say I've ever had huge issues changing a toddler or a baby.

If your Dh doesn't like baby wipes then he doesn't have to use them

If you've ever tried and failed getting paint off your hands with soap and water, only to use baby wipes and come off easy, then I don't know why you'd want to use then on a baby.

I'm so glad I never had this problem. Stuck ds on a potty every nappy change from when he could sit up, and only had a handful of shitty nappies in his life. And it they happened at home he just went straight in the shower!
