To not get DS (4) what he wants for his birthday

He wants the spiderman that shoots webs.
Seen it for £20 on amazon.
It looks crap and is expensive.
Got him spiderman dress up from ELC.
Also got a remote helicopter.
For the price of these I could have got him the thing he wanted.
Feel bad now.
AIBU?

Depends how badly he really wanted it, if desperately, then YABU and a bit mean imo. On the other hand, is it the webshooter that shoots silly string, in which case you have had a lucky escape, ds1 got this many moons ago and used about 3 cans of the stuff all over my ceilings before i noticed and was a fucking nightmare to clean up.

winnybella · 03/11/2012 23:07

Hmm. YABU, I think. DS had that years ago and he and his friends had quite a lot of fun with it. It is plastic crap but then I would probably get my child at least one thing that they said they wanted iyswim.

Sometimes you buy stuff you know's crap because you know it'll make them happy.

If you are BU and he notices/minds it'll be a good lesson that he can't have everything he wants Grin

I'm sure he'll love what you've got him, at four a birthday is the most exciting thing this side of Texas.

lowercase · 03/11/2012 23:16

No, it's not the silly string one! Small mercies!

I've just bought it, with one click..
I will tell him he has mumsnet to thank for it!

Save the stuff you'd already bought for him for Christmas?

It's the look on their faces that makes it worth it.

Then the toy will be played with for half an hour before sitting on a shelf for ten months and you decide to sell it on ebay

lowercase · 03/11/2012 23:25

Fab idea zigzag, will def put the helicopter away.

That means I have started my Christmas shopping already!

Thanks all

I was going to say that that is the kind of present evil Uncles are for, literally in our case as BIL bought it for our nephew. That stuff covered SIL's (nephew's mum) living room, it is still discussed with shaken head (and shurging, smirking BIL) even though that was one of the original version a good decade or so back (Nephew is 23 now so it would be well over a decade now, was BIL crowning evil Uncle moment I think).

Only let it be used outside.
