to think you should make your bed in the morning?

Just read elsewhere that made me think some people don't bother. I couldn't leave the house without making my bed, it takes about 30 seconds and if I haven't done it, I sort of feel like I've forgotten to put any knickers on or something, as though I've not done something really important.
I know someone in RL who doesn't and I think she's totally lazy!
Do people really not bother to do this?

Making the bed is not the same as cleaning it or changing the bedding, it's just moving the bedding about! Why does not doing that make you dirty/scuzzy?!

I always throw the duvet back to leave the bed to air. Couldn't give a flying feck as to what other people do. Including people that stay at my house.

Takes me a good 5 minutes to make my bed as I do like to arrange my very na-ice decorative cushions that nobody ever see's in the order that I like. I'm late most mornings but lalalalalalala my bed is beautiful (and all the little bedbugs are nice n cosy!)

bedmonster · 01/11/2012 10:33

And where did I say I don't air my bed? Or clean my sheets regularly? Or I replace my duvet? I didn't realise you had to make 3000 disclaimers before posting or only post about worthy subjects!! (It's just that it gets made before I leave the house...)

I have also been known to make my side of the bed even before DH is out of his side.......it's just the way I roll :-)
FYI I have the HUGEST pile of washing & ironing that I've ignored for well over a week (cough 2weeks cough) so as someone stated earlier, standards in housekeeping are very different so best to keep opinions about skankiness to yourself.

But then what would we talk about...?! Carry on
Ladies, as you were!

CouthyMowEatingBraiiiiinz · 01/11/2012 10:38

I don't bother.

I leave mine to air with the duvet pulled back. At the weekends this is for a couple of hours, but in the week, I make the bed as soon as I get in because I am not there a couple of hours after I get up.

BegoniaBigtoes · 01/11/2012 10:44

I once read a sciency article on how unmade beds have fewer dust mites. I never make the bed except when I change the sheets - it's one place where no one who comes round is going to see it, so I really can't be arsed. I'm not lazy though, I feel as if I run around like a headless chicken doing thousands of things every day, but bedmaking isn;t one of them.

ClippedPhoenix · 01/11/2012 10:45

I'm the same as you OP. I have to make the beds and make sure all's tidy before leaving the house in the morning.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 01/11/2012 10:47

Leave it turned back neatly all day and the same for the DCs. I wouldn't feel it had aired sufficiently if I only left it turned back for an hour. Couldn't care less what anyone else does.

JustFabulous · 01/11/2012 10:55

It is better to fold your quilt down and leave your bed to air. Heat is loved by bed bugs...

Ephiny · 01/11/2012 11:24

"ephiny I'm not saying that you should make your bed at all" - er, that was exactly what you said, in fact it's the thread title Confused. I think you're on a wind-up.

Never mind, it was probably about time we had a judgey bed-linen thread!

So, who irons their sheets then?

How do you get through the day being so unhealthily obsessed with inconsequential things? The mind boggles.

FromEsme · 01/11/2012 12:50

I don't think I've ever made my bed. I really don't see the point.

ksrwr · 01/11/2012 12:53

Scuttlebutter · 01/11/2012 13:03

When we get up, I straighten the bottom sheet, shake out the pillows and fold back the duvet neatly, so the sheet is exposed. Window is usually open but if not, then it's opened to allow room to air. Usually we walk the dogs straight away so we leave the bed looking unmade but still neat and tidy, and airing. When I return from dog walk, all that is needed is to flip duvet back up, straighten and the bed is then made. Can't abide the thought of an unaired bed - would be rank, sweaty and smelly. Think the room looks neat once the bed is made, but can't say I spend hours agonising over it. Confused

mumeeee · 01/11/2012 13:21

NI don't make the bed in the morning. It needs to be left to air,

ouryve · 01/11/2012 13:23

I pull back the duvet and turn the dehumidifier on in the bedroom when I get dressed. The bedding gets straightened up again if I happen to go upstairs again at any point in the day (all that is upstairs IS 2 bedrooms, so I frequently don't go upstairs at all). Is that satisfactory?

BellaVita · 01/11/2012 13:23

I like all of our beds made before I go out to work.

wishes · 01/11/2012 13:28

Sometimes I do, and sometimes I don't. But it's much nicer to look at and to get back into when I do. It does only take a minute. It's one piece of visual mess that's very easy to sort out. Not like the rest of the house...
