to think you should make your bed in the morning?

Just read elsewhere that made me think some people don't bother. I couldn't leave the house without making my bed, it takes about 30 seconds and if I haven't done it, I sort of feel like I've forgotten to put any knickers on or something, as though I've not done something really important.
I know someone in RL who doesn't and I think she's totally lazy!
Do people really not bother to do this?

I can't be arsed.

untidy beds healthier

impty · 01/11/2012 09:20

Air the bed! Then if I have time/ can be bothered make it again the the afternoon. More often than not make it just before I get in! I was once told by someone else's child I was lazy for not making the bed. Didn't care then...don't care now.

ChippingInLovesAutumn · 01/11/2012 09:21

I air mine for a while (while showering/getting ready etc) then make it. Most days. I like it made & to look nice when I get home.

However, it's just barking to feel like 'something important' hasn't been done if you haven't made it & it's absolutely ridiculous to give a flying fuck what anyone else does in their own home.

xxDebstarxx · 01/11/2012 09:23

Depends on my mood but it's not the end of the world if it isn't made

YUK at you lazy lot!
My DC make their beds too, and I ask them to keep a relatively tidy bedroom. They learn by example, hence making my bed. Do those of you who who are too lazy to make your own beds not ask your DC to make their own?
Really think you lot with scuzzy beds have no standards! I may BU, but there you go just glad none of you minging lot are my friends!!! Grin

Waste of time because the dog sleeps up there in the day and makes it into a suitable lump to lie on.

Baffles me why people bother especially those who tuck it all in then line up scatter cushions only to chuck them all on the floor at bedtime.

GetOrfAKAMrsUsainBolt · 01/11/2012 09:31

Oh give over.

I have bored everyone to death on mumsnet with what I do with my bedding, but I really couldn't care less what anyone does in their own home. It doesn't make people lazy fgs. Yes OP you may be a paragon of bedmaking but I am sure there are aspects to your housekeeping where you are more slack than others.

Now go and polish your front step, you slattern.

bedmonster · 01/11/2012 09:32

Interesting research. But I would bet that most don't make the active decision not to make their beds to reduce mites etc. More that they are just lazy slatterns! It's fine, i'm happy to be in the small minority who likes a tidy bedroom Smile

I spend that 30 seconds you spend every morning making your bed eating a biscuit.
:)

HazleNutt · 01/11/2012 09:32

Eww so all your made and tidy beds are full of dust mites happily multiplying..

FatimaLovesBread · 01/11/2012 09:33

Why is it mingin to not have a duvet pulled over the bed? Genuinely don't get it.
If there were stains all over the duvet and sheets because they were never washed that would be minging. But to not have the duvet straight? Confused

Pascha · 01/11/2012 09:33

I love a made bed and I start twitching too if I've not done it before leaving in the morning. Takes no effort to throw the covers back as I get up and remake it after breakfast. Thats about an hour of airing which is plenty.

maddening · 01/11/2012 09:34

I pull the bottom sheet straight and shake out and fold duvet back to air the bed. I piff up the pillows and put them straighy.I love it when I get in and the bedroom looks tidy.

TempusFuckit · 01/11/2012 09:34

bedmonster do you carry out inspections of your friends' bedrooms to ensure they pass muster?

Beanbagz · 01/11/2012 09:34

Your friend might have this article which says that bed making might not be such a good thing!

cozietoesie · 01/11/2012 09:35

I've got a pair of silk satin sheets: the most luxurious and naughty things you can imagine. Haven't used them that recently but when I did, I never made the bed.

Just 'arranged' it slightly every morning.

Fuchzia · 01/11/2012 09:38

YABU beds need to be properly aired. Pulling a duvet back over your still-warm sheets is a bit minging IMO. Still you can do what you want in your own home as I will in mine.

3monkeys3 · 01/11/2012 09:38

I don't like unmade beds in my own house (though I usually leave them for about an hour to 'air' them) and would probably be slightly judgey about it in someone else's - but I don't think people should have to make their beds to please me! So, whilst I agree with you, YABU to think that everyone else should too.

CailinDana · 01/11/2012 09:39

I know it's totally irrational but to me there's something a bit sad about an immaculate bedroom. To me it says "I can't even let go when I'm on my own, I still have to show a good face even if there is no one around," whereas a messy bedroom says "I'll put on a good show of being a grown up, downstairs, but upstairs, I'm still a bit of a child." :) I am reassured by the ability not to worry about inconsequential things.

Ephiny · 01/11/2012 09:39

Why 'should' I make my bed? Confused Genuine question.

Fine if you want to make yours, but why would you care whether other people do?

Personally I don't, it's just not something I've ever done (either as a child or an adult) and when I think about it I really can't see the point. Also it does seem nicer to let it 'air' a bit especially if you don't change sheets daily.

Give me a good reason and I'll consider it though!
