Neighbour vacuuming at 07:30!

LadyMaryCreepyCrawley · 31/10/2012 19:30

It's HALF TERM! I don't want waking up at 07:30 (their small child is up and stomping around about 20 mins before, mum only works term time so she should be off for half term). AIBU to ask her to stop?

Hoovering every day at that time is unreasonable.

BitOutOfPractice · 31/10/2012 20:30

She hoovers every morning at 7:30 am. It's madness. Madness I tell you!

Smithson6 · 31/10/2012 20:30

I dont think you are being unreasonable at all. 7.30 feels like the middle of the night at the moment. vacuuming noise is nasty. Mornings are painful enough with out brain grinding noise.

catgirl1976 · 31/10/2012 20:31

YABU - 7:30 on a weekday is not early. You may well want a lie in but the world...........it doesn't revolve around you. Sorry.

LadyMaryCreepyCrawley · 31/10/2012 20:31

Ds is 13. This is half term we're talking about, so has nothing to do with whether anyone works here or not.

Your post is actually very offensive, someday Hmm

I never hoover before work; always on the weekend and after 9am. Our neighbours with the early waking baby also work but never hoover before work on weekdays (actually they hoover around 6pm on Sundays)! Not all working families hoover before work.

BitOutOfPractice · 31/10/2012 20:33

somedayma what exactly is the OP doing that is inconsiderate of anyone else? Breathing too loudly while she lies in bed? How is what she is doing impacting on anyone? Whereas what the neighbour is doing is inconsiderate of the OP

akaemmafrost · 31/10/2012 20:33

If it's ok to Hoover at 7.30, is it ok to play music? My neighbour has on occasion done this and it makes me so Angry.

LadyMaryCreepyCrawley · 31/10/2012 20:34

See, very mixed views so I'm still not sure if I'm being unreasonable! [hconfused]

BitOutOfPractice · 31/10/2012 20:34

I'm a single working FT parent and I've never hoovered at that time unless there's a soillage of some sort

BitOutOfPractice · 31/10/2012 20:34

That should say spillage

Sparklingbrook · 31/10/2012 20:35

Oh i don't know Bit 'soilage' is quite a good word. Grin

somedayma · 31/10/2012 20:35

inconsiderate of the fact that other people have lives that don't revolve around the neighbour wanting a lie in. perhaps inconsiderate wasn't the right word. Self centred is probably better

whathasthecatdonenow · 31/10/2012 20:36

I hoover at about 7:15 as I leave for work at 7:30. I've got a dog and two cats who shed fur so I hoover twice every day. On weekends it is more like 10am. I have to hoover twice a day as the male cat eats any fur on the carpet and it makes him sick. My neighbours are all up anyway - we all set off at around about the same time.

7:30 is a serious lie-in for me. I'm up at six during the week.

SuePurblybilt · 31/10/2012 20:36

But it's actually 8.30 innit? Cos the clocks only just went back. Children are still getting up at the same time so she'd probably done everything else already.

Smithson6 · 31/10/2012 20:37

Canihaveapetgiraffe you don't know anyone who sleeps in after nine? Seriously? I sleep in until whenever I want to given half the chance and I have small children and a job. Weekend lie ins here can go on until lunchtime if required. You never want to hang out in bed drinking tea and watching crap on the i player after a long week? sheeesh.

Fakebook · 31/10/2012 20:39

Hmm I'm still waking up at 6.45 every morning thanks to my alarm clock, that is my DS. Good on them for hoovering that early in the day.

LadyMaryCreepyCrawley · 31/10/2012 20:40

Weekends, half term and the school holidays have a slower pace here. There's (usually) no pressure to wake up early, grab some quick breakfast and get out of the door in time to catch the bus. There's nothing self centered about wanting 1 day where I can wake up naturally, without the use of an alarm clock or a hoover. Hmm

It is 08:30, you're right, Sue [hgrin]

My teenagers complained because I hoovered at 12.30 pm today.

I lost my temper

LadyMary, you are not being unreasonable. The whole world should stop for half term apart from those unlucky enough to have to go to work and they should sneak out without waking us

storminabuttercup · 31/10/2012 20:42

It would never occur to me not to Hoover at half seven, I don't think ive ever heard my neighbours Hoover Confused it's not a very loud noise really is it?

I also put my washer on late, I sleep right above it and can't hear it so don't think the neighbours can.

Confused
CanIHaveAPetGiraffePlease · 31/10/2012 20:42

Maybe I know odd people or it's a stage of life thing . . . But certainly not midweek. Most friends either work or have partners who work so are out of bed for breakfast even if in pjs. I've occasionally sat in bed with a cup of tea (mothers day etc) but even that's not sleeping so wouldn't be disturbed by hoovering.

I thought regularly sleeping past 9 was something teenagers students and nightshift workers did! I could obviously be wrong about this!

sudaname · 31/10/2012 20:43

It would never even cross my mind to do or not do something at a certain time because 'it's half term'. l would consider whether something was reasonable and considerate or not as the case may be, regardless of whether my neighbour was an OAP, a young mum, self employed or whatever.
I dont think 7.30 is too early to vacuum in the week and by the sound of it neither do you usually. I dont believe your neighbour should have to follow two sets of rules because you have children of school age.

The hand that rocks the cradle doesnt rule my world, l'm afraid.Hmm

Northernlurkerisbehindyouboo · 31/10/2012 20:44

Oh crumbs - you're seriously pissed off because people don't agree with you?

Yes you definately do need more sleep. And a detached house.

MrsEdinburgh · 31/10/2012 20:46

YANBU
My lovely elderly neighbour gets up around 6.30am & even she thinks it's rude to hoover before 9am.
The previous owners of our house would hoover before 8am (as neighbour tells me.) Lovely neighbour says when she worked full time she would hoover in the evening and likes the fact I do the same (that's when the carpet pleads to be cleaned - but then I'm a slattern anyway. Wink )

SuePurblybilt · 31/10/2012 20:46

I need more sleep and a detached house too.
If they're going Grin
