Since the banking crisis the richest 1,000 people in Britain have seen their wealth increase by £155bn.

1000 people. £155 billion pounds.

That's enough to pay off the whole government deficit of £119bn in one go.

I fail to see how 'we are all in this together'.

How is this right in a civilized society when millions of children live in poverty ? Surely money is like water, and it's all flowed into the hands of a select few.

Why does someone always insist on bringing up communism when anyone argues for a more equitable system of wealth distribution?

Quite. There must be a Godwin's Law equivalent for mentioning communism in an argument about economics.

You don't need to go as far as communism to help redress the balance. The government needs to concentrate on closing the many loopholes that allow big corporations to avoid paying tax, instead of concentrating on taxing the little people to the hilt. I can't get away with avoiding paying tax - why should someone who earns billions?

Surely everyone should be morally responsible (I was nt picking out the rich in particular).

But the government aren't taxing the 'little people' to the hilt. In the UK, poor people pay very little tax. True, poorer people can't afford top flying whizzy accountants to find out loopholes for them. But the issue rests: there wouldn't be tax avoidance if the loopholes didn't exist.

I've suggested communism because no one was suggesting anything else.

I agree with ItAllGoingToBeFine - the social contract and all that. Being part of a society is about paying taxes, whoever you are.
