to take the piss out of 4x4s

Picked dd up from school today, she pointed at I think a Landrover Freelander (I'm not an expert) in the car park, and said 'why is that there?'

I said 'maybe they're a farmer'.

Said vehicle had clearly been the subject of regular waxing, leather interior, and so on and looked the shiniest vehicle in the car park, so this was obviously not the case, certainly not in this area.

DD said 'maybe they built that building there?'

'Maybe', I said.

I could say 'because some people make inappropriate and antisocial car choices'.

But taking the piss seems better?

I have a convertible atm.

I'm quite tempted by one of these though:

The older ones are about £10k.

YADNBU!! Ugly big monster trucks.
Dont like them at all, no matter what reason you give for having them, it wont wash with me.
Suddenly I see them all the time. Latest fad perhaps?
Chelsea tractors, isnt that what they are also known as?
Keep the country out of the town, thats what I say!
But then again I am a city girl at heart.
OP take the piss all you like.

nancy75 · 31/10/2012 00:13

So only 4x4s park in the no parking bit outside the school, really, no other type of car has ever done it? Joan, I think you're fibbing

scottishmummy · 31/10/2012 00:15

worthy right-on crowing about big cars is so dull
I'd def rather be hanging with the shiny car set
than cliché central forcing kid to laugh at right on jokes

FatimaLovesBread · 31/10/2012 00:15

You do know that 4x4s aren't all huge monster cars? You can get a 4x4 Fiat Panda or Audi A3 or Mini

nancy, I think there's a correlation between being entitled and owning a £50k blingmobile.

Also everyone seems to have a 4x4 at my kids' school.

Perhaps I would hate Chrysler Grand Voyagers if they all had one of those, but they don't.

OP posts:
scottishmummy · 31/10/2012 00:16

you see I like some of the 4x4
and it pisses off the quinoa munchers
result

ShellyBoobs · 31/10/2012 00:18

scottishmummy you see it the same way as I do.

It's a 'win win'!

[hgrin]

thebody · 31/10/2012 00:19

Up the childminders..

JoanBias · 31/10/2012 00:19

Did you see this bit in the Burton Mail on the weekend btw?

www.burtonmail.co.uk/News/Flat-out-cyclist-gets-backs-up-at-area-forum-meeting-26102012.htm

Basically some old bloke in a huge truck can't see out of his 10-foot high windscreen so that means cyclists deserve to die.

I don't have a problem with four-wheel drive as a concept. Nor with gas guzzling. But these ridiculous high cars block my view and get on my tits. Plus despite the reverse cameras and parking sensors they don't know how to park.

Scottishmummy, I'm something of a quinoa muncher yet I'm planning yo get a 4x4 when I change my car.

I know, it blows my mind too.

prudencesmom · 31/10/2012 00:23

GO JOAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

nancy75 · 31/10/2012 00:25

Joan, did you read that article? The cyclist is riding a stupid bike that makes him almost invisible. There is a man near me that rides something similar and I have almost run him over, and fwiw I drive a golf, so hardly a massive vehicle. The other guy was driving a pick up truck, not quite a q7!

scottishmummy · 31/10/2012 00:25

is that your best post? go Joan.
oh very dear
go Joan what, this isn't Oprah you know

MidniteScribbler · 31/10/2012 00:25

I have a 4WD with a monster bull bar because I live in the country and kangaroos like to jump out in front of me. If you've ever seen a roo go through the windscreen of a car, you'll understand why we drive 4WDs out here.

Plus it has the added benefit of distracting other drivers. While they are frothing at the mouth about the big horrible 4WDs daring to come in to "their" town, I can nip in and steal their parents with prams carpark from right under their surgically enhanced noses.

nancy75 · 31/10/2012 00:28

Midnite, I hope you live in Australia? If you don't perhaps a visit to spec savers is on order? Grin

JoanBias · 31/10/2012 00:31

'why does owning a nice car make you "entitled"?'

I'm not sure that it does, BUT if you own a brand new ostentatious car that sets you apart from someone choosing something more discreet.

And of course there's the simple fact that wealth does make people entitled. If you earn £6.19/hour and drive an old banger and people look at you like shit when you walk in because they perceive you don't have money to spend, then that's very different from someone with a bling-bling Q7 and all the trappings (personal trainer, multiple foreign holidays per year, etc.)

People in the Four Seasons Hotel are much more demanding than the Travelodge. And not merely because it costs more.

Not every rich person has a Range Rover of course. Some don't like tacky ostentation.

My experience is that drivers of BMWs and 4x4s are the most entitled-acting on the roads. That's not to say I've never been cut up by someone in a Ford Mondeo or whatever. Maybe the 4x4s are just more conspicuous. Who knows.

Yes Nancy I do live in Australia, where we take great pleasure in pointing out our native wildlife to visiting tourists. "Oh look there's on the side of the road... a roo! Slightly flat, but it won't run away while you're taking photos."

scottishmummy · 31/10/2012 00:37

what are you on about?
are you cheering your own post
well suppose you got to seeing there only one fan bigging you up

sleeplessinsuburbia · 31/10/2012 00:37

matter what reason you give for having them, it wont wash with me. what an odd thing to say....

Which 8 sweater car that fits 4 car seats would you suggest for off roading?

meboo · 31/10/2012 00:39

We bought a landy discovery originally because we go camping a lot and we do lots of things in our spare time which required filling up the whole back of the car. Then one day we were involved in a very serious car accident and our landy was written off. Everyone, police, paramedics and firemen said that had we been in any other vehicle myself, my husband and my son would have died. Subsequently I will NEVER put my family in another vehicle. So please, go ahead, take the mick all you like. I have had the last laugh.

JoanBias · 31/10/2012 00:41

joan, did you read that article? The cyclist is riding a stupid bike that makes him almost invisible.

Invisible?

Shome mishtake shurely?

And the car truck driver thinks he deserves to die, what?

and fwiw I drive a golf, so hardly a massive vehicle. The other guy was driving a pick up truck, not quite a q7!

Same issue of being too high and blocking other road users' view.
