to think this non-smoker shouldnt have been complaining about smoke in her face....

....when she was standing in a bus shelter type smoking "solution" outside a pub and had come out there to talk to her friend?

AIBU to think that her having a go at another smoker and asking him to stand outside the shelter was not on? If she didnt like it then surely she should have waited for her friend to finish her fag (yes the friend was smoking but didnt get moaned at!) and finished their conversation inside? She was disgusted when he pointed out that he was in the designated smoking area so....err...no!

Oh and what made me really annoyed was the waving of hands in front of her face, swearing under her breath and faux coughing!

YANBU (I assume thats where this is meant to be Smile).

She shouldn't stand in the SMOKING shelter if she doesn't want to get smoke in her face. Bloody idiot.

UndeadPixie · 30/10/2012 22:07

Yanbu. Feel the same way about it as you do. I hope you told her she was being ridiculous!

cafebistro · 30/10/2012 22:07

Well I agree that if it offended her so much then she shouldn't have stood in there. But smoking's fucking filthy so .... well i don't blame her for moaning.

blondiedollface · 30/10/2012 22:07

If it's covered by a roof it's illegal to smoke there under UK law, she was perfectly within her rights, but perhaps BU if it were a 'designated smoking area'

TheOneWithTheHair · 30/10/2012 22:08

YANBU. What did she expect?

cardibach · 30/10/2012 22:10

Designated smoking area or covered outdoor area? Non-smokers want fresh air too, you know!
If it was designated for smoking, she should have shut up or moved, perhaps, but if it was just a covered area appropriated by smokers that is a different situation.

Bogeyface · 30/10/2012 22:13

It was a designated smoking area. couldnt comment on the legalities of the shelter itself but it was away from the outdoor seating area (well away, even though you can smoke there if you want to) and signed as the smoking area.

If she didnt like it, why didnt she move? To me its like complaining about being hit by a car when you are standing in the middle of a motorway!

OP posts:
cardibach · 30/10/2012 22:21

In that case, she was unreasonable!

edam · 30/10/2012 22:22

I like the analogy with standing in the middle of a motorway. Daft cow, good for him re. the smoker who stayed put.

fizzybeerandsausages · 30/10/2012 22:28

I hate smoking but she was BVU. Having a roof doesn't make a smoking shelter illegal, it's more to do with the amount of enclosed sidesand whether it's 'open' enough.

Bogeyface · 30/10/2012 22:31

I understood that it shouldnt have more than 50% wall or roof. This was basically a lean-to ype roof attached to a brick wall, so no sides, definitely less than 50%.

Hi guys,

We're going to move this to AIBU soon, so the title will be complete (phew)

SugariceAndScary · 31/10/2012 13:04

Silly woman complaining about a smoker in a smokers designated area [hgrin]

Yes she was being very unreasonable!

mutny · 31/10/2012 13:05

If it's covered by a roof it's illegal to smoke there

No its not.
yes she was being completely unreasonable and a twat.

LadyEvilBeagle · 31/10/2012 13:09

Silly cow.
And don't you just hate that arm flapping thing?
Or the fake cough. I know some people hate smoking but pretending to splutter while waving your arms around is not going to make a blind bit of difference.

Cahoots · 31/10/2012 13:19

YANBU! The silly moo

janey68 · 31/10/2012 13:26

What on earth was she doing standing in a stinky smoking shelter? Obviously she was being unreasonable complaining but I can't for the life of me understand why anyone would choose to be there. Leave the puffers to it!

SchrodingersUndeadMew · 31/10/2012 13:30

YANBU! How bloody annoying.

bakerbakerfairycaker · 31/10/2012 13:30

Back when you could smoke indoors I sparked up in a pub and a guy on the next table did the faux cough and flapping thing. He managed to flap just enough to send his full pint onto his crotch.
