to wish for a bit of honesty in people

I am really annoyed, I have just asked for £30 cash back in Asda and forgot to pick it up (trying to juggle kids and shopping), got home and rang them up but no-one has handed it in, is it too much to expect that if you found cash in the cash dispenser that you would hand it in? That was the cash for the rest of the week!

I handed in some lost cash (£10) in ikea. I saw the guy shove it in his pocket really quickly when he thought I wasn't looking.

Think you'll have no luck with cash. I accidentally left a bag of shopping on the handle part of the trolley and went back half an hour later - not there and not handed in, just stolen.

Self service till, it just really annoys me when someone sees an opportunity like that and takes it with no thought for the person who has lost out still . I'll just have to hope that whoever they are needs it more than I do.

If there was no-one behind you (who might have taken it) the machine will automatically take the money back into itself if you haven't taken it - if so, it should be recredited to your account - I'd ring your bank tomorrow if this is what might have happened and see if the money has come back to you.

This happened to me last week and I got my money back.

Beamur - that's at a cash point, but this was a self service till in Asda, where the money comes out in the change dispenser - no such luck I'm afraid

Yes, if it's still there after about 15 seconds the cash machine takes it back. Sometimes it automatically goes back to your account, but sometimes it just sits in the machine until its manually tallied, and then they'll see the extra £30 and add it back. So phone up your bank and ask if they are aware that the money wasn't taken, and record it with Asda so that they know that the £30 extra in the machine is yours.

Hopefully no one was close enough to you to take it...

It works the same at the self service tills in Sainsburys, so hopefully you'll be lucky and the same process takes place at Asda. I thought it was a legal requirement.

A boy took my dd's scooter today when she was in the library. She was in tears when she rang me. I went to get her and we saw him casually scooting off with it with a gang of friends, so I went and had a word and grabbed it back. Apparantly he 'found' it He wasn't in the least bit sorry or ashamed.

I'm so sorry about the money It's so easy to get distracted when dc are with you.

I rang them and they said that unless someone had handed it in then there was nothing they could do , at the end of the day it's not their fault. They didn't mention the possibility of teh machine taking it back inside. Might check again tomorrow.

I wish people didn't act like it was so bloody surprising when people are honest. I handed money in in this exact situation and the person looked so flabbergasted that I had.

This will be classed as theft and investigated by your local police. report to your local police station or call 101 and they should send a couple of PCSO's to check CCTV in the store... It shouldn't be too difficult, if you've got your receipt then it will have the time so making it easier for security and PCSO's to check CCTV!! You never know store security or the PCSO'S might recognise the thief person!!! OR person will then be captured taking your money and their image possibly displayed on your local police website where members of the public can click through CCTV images of minor crimes and report if they recognise them... That's what happens in my area!! Good luck

How awful Ithinkitsjustme. So easy to do this, you'd think people would have a bit of decency. Lots of people are struggling at the moment and £30 is a lot of money.

Oh god, I really feel for you. £30 is a week's grocery shopping for us, I'd cry if that happened so I really sympathise. I hope you somehow get it back.

That's happened to me and I was so upset. Yes, those bloody machines talk at you and bleep at you non-stop but because they do, I tend to ignore them. I was really tired and in a massive rush. And yes, someone was behind me who clearly picked it up. I know karma's crap but I still wished someone would bite her on the bum.

I've always given money in when I've found it.

This happened to me in Asda and I got my money back. After police involvement and a bit of drama!

The self service tills as you can imagine are open to abuse and usually have a camera fixed on them. When I contacted the store and mentioned this again, I was put through to security. The security man went through the tape and saw who pocketed my cash. It was a regular shopper and the police were called when they were next spotted. They were approached and then eventually I got my cash back. It is theft to back something that doesn't belong to you. Just like taking an unchained bicycle. I would push the store a little bit more. Apparently it's a common occurrence and sometimes people watch those tills.

Yabu, most people are honest. It sucks u didn't get your money back but this is not always the case. On 2 separate occasions I have had people walk away from an ATM leaving thick piles of cash in the ATM in front of me and I have chased after them to give it back. My mum in law also dropped 250 quid in a London restaurant which was found and handed in.

Don't think it is likely to be theft as probably the person who took it would argue they honestly believed the owner could not be found s2(1)(c) theft act. Still, it is a shit thing for someone to have done :(

I would def contact them or police again - but asda service tills usually just spit money out into a tray, so no option for it to go back in I have nearly left change behind this way, because it's low down

I did exactly this when sleep deprived and shopping in Asda with baby and toddler. I realised before I had left the store and went straight back to the till: the money was long gone and Customer Services could only offer sympathy. I have to confess I cried: partly because of the money, partly because I was angry at myself but mainly because I found it depressing that the person behind wouldn't have tapped me on the shoulder and let me know my mistake. It's crap. Big sympathy to you OP and hope you do push the store to investigate. I didn't because it seemed they shrugged it off as an everyday occurrence. It put me off self service tills though.
