Did you move home/house to "start again"? Did it work?

There are often moving threads on MN for various reasons, children, grass-greener, urban/rural, etc.

But sometimes people also want to move to "start again". Perhaps where they have lived has memories they want to move on from. Perhaps they have changed.

So I am curious if any posters have changed location for these reasons, and curious if it worked?

(I have specific reasons for wanting to move, but the "start again" factor is also present I think).

Yes I did this last year. I moved 500 miles and I love it and its working just fine.

Yes, me too, I had to move when I had my kids, from a city into literally the middle of nowhere, did it work? yes and no, yes because I'm free of day to day temptations/old faces.
but no, because when I go up there (family still there) the old problems are still there, and I haven't really dealt with them just ran away!!
but I'm so glad I did, I may not be alive/have my kids if I hadn't!!

I had a major falling out with most of my family and found it hard being where I was so I never visit where I used to live so I have sort of ran away and stayed away. I guess its helped me bury my head in the sand a bit as the problems are still there but I don't have to worry about them anymore. Where I am now no-one knows anything I don't tell them about me and there isn't all the usual backstabby gossip and he said-she said going on.

We moved 1200 miles for career reasons and so far so good. It'll cost me a fortune in the long run as I'll probably end up buying his mother a flat but on the whole the move has been a positive one and we are happy.

Oh yes. Twice.

Three times if you count leaving home and getting the hell away from the sinkhole estate I grew up on

I love a fresh start

Yes, after my exH and I split up. He had chosen the house and I wanted something that was completely mine. I only moved a few miles away to another village, but it made a huge difference to our lives. I very rarely go back to where I used to live and really feel that the new start helped to clear my head.

I moved 130 miles to be with my now DH, 12 years ago. I couldn't wait to get away from where I lived, made some very decisions with my life. When I moved no one knew my past (except DH who accepted me) and it was the fresh start I needed. Have never been happier

definitely worked for us...would never be afraid of doing it again if it felt right to...any distance
