..... in publishing a party planning book. I mean, no-one would have heard of her otherwise. I bet the Queen is horrified. AIBU to find it all greedy and money-grabbing?

I feel bloody sorry for her. Like her sister, she can't leave the house without snappers trying to get upskirt shots, she has to look fantastic all the time and smile at people trying to make her cry deliberately - unlike her sis, she has no funding to pay for it, no security and no driver. Not even a dog who can bark. Meh.

Her only option is to try and marry someone seriously rich - ie who has got enough money to look after her and keep her safe.

jaffacakehips · 26/10/2012 21:09

Good luck to her!

She wrote the book herself without the help of a ghost writer, which is franky as it should be. It's not her fault the daily mail press follower her about all the time. And if I was going to stand in front of hundreds of paps all day, I'd change my outfit too, why the hell not Grin

Pippa is damned either way, so she might as well make 400K out of it. I bloody well would.

WorraLiberty · 26/10/2012 21:13

She has another option and that is to make herself seriously rich.

Which I assume is what she's trying to do.

squoosh · 26/10/2012 21:17

I predict she will make money and marry money.

OhDearSpareHeadTwo · 26/10/2012 21:20

Actually I have had a couple of glasses of wine and would like to say my piece about the Middletons

Their children have behaved impeccably despite having the entire media and naysayers desperate for them to slip up. The DoC seems to have seamlessly become part of The Firm and imho has made a brilliant start on her royal career. Carol and Michael must be extremely proud of them

Katiekitty · 26/10/2012 21:25

Paps are tipped off to take photos.

Why haven't any of the other great party planners releasing a book got this kind of 'money can't buy' publicity?

Has anyone read her top tips? Viz could learn a lot.

aquashiv · 26/10/2012 21:27

She has seen a gap in the market and a way to use what she knows.

I have no idea whether its about the money fame or personal sense of achievement.

Its a shame she is being villified for trying to make something of herself. At least she is trying to step aside from being known as having a backside.

squoosh · 26/10/2012 21:28

I'd be pretty hacked off if my sibling's choice of spouse meant I was expected to behave impeccably for the rest of my days.

TiggyD · 26/10/2012 21:32

It's not her fault that by birth and by marriage of a relative she just so happens to be related to royalty and can no longer work as a call girl.

She has to make a living somehow.

BookFairy · 26/10/2012 21:38

I thought the plan all along was for Kate to get with Wills and everyone to live weathily ever after?

MrsShortfuse I'm against having a monarchy and find that avoiding tabloids/magazines helps me ignore the whole thing. A party planning book at a time when many people are struggling to afford to heat their houses and feed their children? Well, people will buy it for the name and she and the publisher will earn some dosh.

Gunznroses · 26/10/2012 21:38

Squoosh - what if your siblings spouse was the PM or a vicar or a police officer, (I'm just imagining you telling sibling "nah! Ditch him...dont want to stop going on the lush, Na! Cant have that, i swear like a trooper, oh no! Im working and signing on Shock Grin

LapsedPacifist · 26/10/2012 21:40

Am I unique in finding comments such as "I can't stand her" from people who have never met the woman utterly and completely bewildering?

Listen up - everything you have read about her has been made up by a journalist. They can write any garbage they want about someone who is ONLY in the public eye because of her sister's choice of husband.

And as for comments such as "I bet the Queen is horrified" Shock Shock
REALLY? do you REALLY believe this to be true? Is Her Maj going to be 'Horrified' that someone very tangentially connected with her family should actually be doing her job by promoting the business she works for? How exactly is this young woman exploiting her connections? Or is the fact she is simply consuming oxygen sufficient reason to insult her?

TiggyD · 26/10/2012 21:46

The family website always tries very hard not to cash in. During the diamond Jubbly there was crap all over the shops: Jubbly this and Jubbly that. On the Party Pieces website it was like:"Traditional English party decorations and stuff". Same thing happened for the wedding.

squoosh · 26/10/2012 21:47

Vicars and police are known reprobates so I wouldn't need to worry about disgracing them!

I'd turn into a proper sulky teenager if one of my sibs married someone who was famous and had to appear to be 'proper' at all times. It might go along the lines of 'Muuuuummmmmmm I don't waaaaaant to dress respectablyyyyyy, and I don't waaaaant to stop going to the pub. I HATE you all!!!!!!!'

Something along those lines. Grin

(I would find it seriously boring to be scrutinised and picked over)

Gunznroses · 26/10/2012 21:51

Squoosh - Grin Grin

MrsShortfuse · 26/10/2012 22:33

Well, Lapsed, for a start I can't see HM being wowed by anything as nebulous as party planning and despite her wealth she is known for her frugality, switching off lights etc so is unlikely to be impressed by someone trying to make a shedload of cash because of her royal connection. IMHO anyway. Haven't there been cashing-in scandals in the past with Fergie and Sophie? I accept I might be completely wrong of course about what HM thinks.

Pippa Middleton is exploiting her connections because no-one would have heard of her otherwise.

Ever heard of these people - Paulette Wolf, Donielle Levine, Diane Warner? All authors of party planning books, but I haven't noticed them being splashed across the tabloids.

OP posts:
MadameCreeper · 26/10/2012 22:50

It's not the kind of book I would buy but don't see a problem with it. It would be hard for her to get an average job in the office and work her way up! She has a product and people are free to buy it, or not. I don't begrudge her if she makes a small fortune with it, she needs to build a long term career and income like anyone else. We don't earn millions but we have an idea about future regular income, all being well.

MadameCreeper · 26/10/2012 22:53

Grin sqoosh

NotQuintAtAllOhNo · 26/10/2012 22:54

She is like a well bred Jordan.

Felicitywascold · 26/10/2012 23:17

Pippa Middleton is exploiting her connections because no-one would have heard of her otherwise

So therefore she should what? Not work? How would she go about both working and not exploiting her connections?

Hmm
YouOldSlag · 26/10/2012 23:26

I think she's between a rock and a hard place. She didn't ask or arrange for her sister to be mega famous, yet she is expected to adhere to incredibly high standards of behaviour because of this.

Remember it was the publishers who approached her, she wasn't exactly going round town touting some idea she had.

The book is inoffensive and safe and that's pretty much all she is ever free to do.

Besides which, it's the field she was in long before her sister got married.

squoosh · 26/10/2012 23:29

I agree with that the book's subject matter is 'inoffensive and safe'. There's nothing for anyone to get too worked up about in her suggestions for cocktails or decorations or whatever.

Can you imagine if she'd gone down the Jilly Cooper route? Posh English people shagging in stables . . . . .

Press would have loved it though.

OhDearSpareHeadTwo · 26/10/2012 23:39

Ever heard of these people - Paulette Wolf, Donielle Levine, Diane Warner? All authors of party planning books, but I haven't noticed them being splashed across the tabloids.

Because nobody is interested in them.

RinderThrillerNight · 26/10/2012 23:39

I do not blame her in the least. Absolutely agree with Trills.

MissNJE · 27/10/2012 02:52

How is she shamelessly cashing in on her royal connections? Is it her fault that Kate married William?

She wrote a book, published it and is now making some money. No doubt it will be successful because of her royal connections but I don't blame her for making as much money as possible. At least she does something for a living...
