to think Pippa Middleton is shamelessly cashing in on her royal connections....

..... in publishing a party planning book. I mean, no-one would have heard of her otherwise. I bet the Queen is horrified. AIBU to find it all greedy and money-grabbing?

" but now she is actively courting attention for her own material gain "

Is she though-or is she hounded followed all the time.

And if she does let them know what´s going on-they´ll only turn up if they think it´s worth their while.

It´s not just the press though-if the public weren´t interested, it´d stop.

"I just find it all really distasteful, undignified and superficial."

Her sister will be Queen one day-she probably doesn´t care!

OhDearSpareHeadTwo · 26/10/2012 20:22

And I for one LOVE the Middletons. I like Pippa, I'm entranced by the whole story and I would much rather spend my money on Pippa's entertaining book than some old shite about Chantelle whoever she is, some bint off the X factor or Katie fucking Price.

PosieParker · 26/10/2012 20:23

Perhaps delightedly because I don't read sleb mags I haven't heard of this at all. She is allowed, as is anyone, to do interviews and press releases to sell a book that's how it's done.

diddl · 26/10/2012 20:24

Well really she´s been thrown into the public eye because of Kate-she hasn´t courted it.

Not sure that she does now that much tbh.

Gunznroses · 26/10/2012 20:24

Aw! Give her a break! Damed if she does and damed if she doesn't, could she just possibly have wanted to do this as part of her family business that she works for ? Tis not her fault her sister is married to a royal you know. At least she's not making a career for herself as a bloody "socialite" aka Palmer tara watkinsname and co Hmm

squoosh · 26/10/2012 20:25

To me the Middletons are just celebs, no better or worse than Chantelle or Katie Price or X Factor wannabes. Pippa doesn't particularly bother me but the family wealth, the plummy accents, the circels in which they move doesn't make them superior to other celebrities.

Just more celebs.

Trills · 26/10/2012 20:27

Let's imagine that my parents run a famous London dog-grooming business.

I have helped out in that business all my life, and I now work for them officially and write the blog and contribute pieces to their website.

I decide to write a book on dog grooming.

Then my brother goes and marries Katie Price (who is a customer, she loves her dogs and horses).

If I go ahead and write the book anyway, I will now get more publicity than I would have before my brother married Katie Price.

Should I therefore not write the book?

PosieParker · 26/10/2012 20:28

CElebs are a funny thing though, I don't think the Middletons are celebs. They may be famous but celebrity has become vacuous, talentless famous for famous sake, which I don't think they are at all.

Trills · 26/10/2012 20:29

I think that Kate must really like Wills rather a lot, because if any university boyfriend of mine revealed even one tenth of the baggage and expectations that he has I would have run a mile!

squoosh · 26/10/2012 20:30

Pippa Middleton is a UK Kardashian sister.

MrsShortfuse · 26/10/2012 20:32

I love Kate I must admit. She's gorgeous.

I wouldn't spend my money on any of those books Oh Dear! I feel the same about people like Colleen Rooney - her only 'achievement' is to hook up wiith a promising footballer when she was about 16, yet now she promotes herself as if she's achieved something in her own right when she's only actually made a vicarious quick buck through her connection!

PosieParker · 26/10/2012 20:35

UK Kardashian? Yup all that plastic surgery and stuff.

Itsjustafleshwound · 26/10/2012 20:36

She isn't nearly as bad as Paul Burrell .... At least ahe has a bit of honesty and integrity.

Mrsjay · 26/10/2012 20:36

yes of course she is a little but Isnt her familiy into party supplies and planning it is just abook about parties hardly highbrow

MrsShortfuse · 26/10/2012 20:36

Hmm Trills, you really reckon it happened in that order?

OK I might be bonkers but deep down I just think an intelligent woman with a degree from Edinbugh should have a proper job, like being an accountant or something! And she should just bloody well keep her head down.

OP posts:
MrsShortfuse · 26/10/2012 20:38

Oh yeah, I agree - I have no time for people like him who've cashed in on Diana, the vile man.

OP posts:
QuickLookBusy · 26/10/2012 20:38

I agree with you OP.

If she didn't have a famous sister she wouldn't have a book deal, therefore she is cashing in.

It's all a bit vulgar.

squoosh · 26/10/2012 20:38

No I mean she's famous for being famous. I'm not criticising the girl, as I've said I'd have leapt at the book deal too, but I just don't think she should be seen as 'superior' to other celebrities because she has a nicer accent, went to a great public school and goes out with a Viscount or an Earl or whomever.

OhlimpPricks · 26/10/2012 20:38

More fool those who buy it. I had a flick through it. It's a collection of simple recipes and soft focus photos, and hopeless hints - for the outdoor bonfire/Halloween parties, she suggests providing hay bales for everyone to sit on. (Ocado are currently out of stock. Damn)
It will be in Poundland by next summer.
Paul Burrell bought out a similar book, with detailed instructions on how to pay musical chairs/pass the parcel etc. It had a couple of nice recipes in it though, and was worth the 2 for £1 offer in Poundland [hgrin]

BadgersBottom · 26/10/2012 20:40

I just find it all really distasteful, undignified and superficial - well, like so much of life really! Better this than sat on her arse doing bugger all don't you think? As for cashing in - come on!! Do you really want us to believe you wouldn't? Grin
Anyway - you don't have to buy the book do you. You don't even have to look at it.

squoosh · 26/10/2012 20:40

Oh which to choose!

a)be an accountant
b)accept shedloads of cash for an easy publishing deal.

Trills · 26/10/2012 20:41

OK then

Let's imagine that my parents run a famous London dog-grooming business.

I have helped out in that business all my life, and I now work for them officially and write the blog and contribute pieces to their website.

My brother goes and marries Katie Price (who is a customer, she loves her dogs and horses).

Someone suggests that I should write a book on dog grooming.

I think "I have the expertise to write a book on dog grooming, it is an area that I know a lot about"

If someone is interested in publishing a book, by me, a person who knows what they are talking about, why shouldn't I write it?

Does it matter how my name came to the attention of the publishers?

Trills · 26/10/2012 20:42

If this were Kate's brother rather than sister would you be saying "should have a proper job" or would you say "carrying on the family business"?
