to think Pippa Middleton is shamelessly cashing in on her royal connections....

..... in publishing a party planning book. I mean, no-one would have heard of her otherwise. I bet the Queen is horrified. AIBU to find it all greedy and money-grabbing?

No one complained when Charles Spencer 'cashed in' on Di by forging a media career in the US, did they? Or when he churns out books about great houses of the world and their like, and gets disproportionate media attention?

So I don't feel it should be any different for Pippa. Suspect snobbery may be at work - they're commoners, they ought to know their place, etc etc.

PosieParker · 26/10/2012 20:44

Trills... I am with you 100%.

What should she do? Not write a book, which she may have always thought about doing?

MrsShortfuse · 26/10/2012 20:44

No, I think he should have a proper job too!

He does something with cakes doesn't he?

Trills · 26/10/2012 20:48

So in general the children of people who run businesses should not work in those businesses and try to make those businesses more successful and more well-known? Confused

MrsShortfuse · 26/10/2012 20:49

Hazel I would complain about Charles Spencer on exactly the same grounds. Nothing to do with snobbery.

I've worked with Pippa ( business cross promotion thing) she was very down to earth, polite, professional.

Good luck to her, she has a very strong work ethic and deserves to do well

OhDearSpareHeadTwo · 26/10/2012 20:49

he does indeed squoosh - i think it's pre-designed decor packs for you to decorate your own cake

OhDearSpareHeadTwo · 26/10/2012 20:50

here

ScooseIsLooseInTheHauntedHoose · 26/10/2012 20:50

Can't stand her and everyone going on about her arse! She hasn't got one!

OhDearSpareHeadTwo · 26/10/2012 20:51

So, OP, what exactly do you think the siblings of commoners-marrying-royalty are allowed to do for a job ?

WorraLiberty · 26/10/2012 20:51

Good luck to her.

As it stands she won't be able to fart in public without the tabloids splashing it all over the papers just because her sister married a Prince.

Why shouldn't she get something for herself out of that?

BadgersBottom · 26/10/2012 20:51

I don't understand the level of dislike for Pippa Middleton or her family. Unless you all know her/them? Do you? Otherwise how can you possibly know that you don't like them this much? Weird.

WorraLiberty · 26/10/2012 20:53

I amused to learn from this thread that she doesn't have an arse.

Who knew?

PosieParker · 26/10/2012 20:54

I understand it, it's called good olde fashioned jealousy, what else could it be?

It's not as if Pippa said to Alexander McQueen's label "oh do make my arse look good so all tabloid papers can write shite about it for the next decade". She wears respectable clothing and works in the family business, what's so wrong about that?

ScooseIsLooseInTheHauntedHoose · 26/10/2012 20:55

I don't mean that but I just mean she's not exactly got much junk in the trunk has she but each to their own

TooMuchRain · 26/10/2012 20:55

how long I wonder before we get weeping and wailing about invasion of privacy

her only 'achievement' is to hook up wiith a promising footballer when she was about 16

a bit like Diana and Kate you mean? They are all undignified and trading on connections

Mrsjay · 26/10/2012 20:55

I think she does actually have an arse how else would she poop Confused

squoosh · 26/10/2012 20:56

I was surprised to learn that she's younger than Kate! Always thought she was a good bit older.

QuickLookBusy · 26/10/2012 20:57

I used to think she was lovely.

The gun incident in Paris put me off her a bit.

ScooseIsLooseInTheHauntedHoose · 26/10/2012 20:58

In just jealous because I have a huge arse Sad

MrsShortfuse · 26/10/2012 20:59

I don't really have a problem with anyone working for a family business of course. Can I point out I have had a glass of wine or three.

There seems to me a big difference between being hounded by the press as a byproduct of one's connections, and exploiting those connections to the full by going out of your way to put yourself in the public eye and all over the newspapers by launching a book in order to make a massive amount of money. It is the latter behaviour that I dislike rather than the woman per se.

WorraLiberty · 26/10/2012 21:03

I think it's a strange 'British' trait really. We tend to hoik up our judgey pants at anyone earning themselves a considerable sum of money through the media, if they haven't trained for a career in it.

Personally I think she deserves to do well out of this.

She didn't ask her sister to become a world wide household name and throw her into the spotlight.

It happened and she had no control over that...so I see this as her way of getting paid for her trouble.

MadRambler · 26/10/2012 21:04

What's she supposed to do? She's been well and truly dumped in the shit by all the attention paid to her and she's never going to be able to live a normal life is she? At least she's trying to do something rather than sponge off her family. I'm not a great fan of hers, but I do feel sorry for her.

squoosh · 26/10/2012 21:06

I don't think she needs too much pity, she seems to be having a rare old time, apparently she's the toast of Manhattan.

S'not fair. I want to be the toast of Manhattan!
