I can't help it. :)

He's a much longed for second baby after a 9 year age gap... he's 4 months old.

Every so often when he's asleep, usually before I go to sleep, I give him a little gentle stroke on his head or prod him to make sure he's breathing ok :)

I'm mean aren't I?

I poked mine every night to get them to stir. I thought this was normal Blush.

carabos · 24/10/2012 22:38

It never ends ladies. Before DS2 went to uni, I would go upstairs to check on him if I couldn't hear him snoring [hblush].

I have done this ever since I was confident enough that I could enter DDs room without waking her. Unfortunately last night I did somehow wake her and she screamed for nearly an hour. She's nearly two and a half! But, OP, YANBU Grin

ATruthUniversallyAcknowledged · 24/10/2012 22:41

YANBU. DS is a rubbish sleeper. He's woken us every three hours or so since he was born 14 months ago [grrr] On the VERY rare occasions he's slept for longer than that, I've woken up in a cold sweat and gone to 'listen to him breathe' Blush

BadRoly · 24/10/2012 22:43

I check all if mine every night when I go to bed and they are 11, 9, 5 and 3 Blush

Coralanne · 24/10/2012 22:43

I used to do tht all the time. I thought it was normal. Blush

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 24/10/2012 22:43

Ivor - yes Grin

emsyj · 24/10/2012 22:43

Yep, my neighbour's DS is the same - snoring, grunting, sniffing, nose-whistling, you name it - she was astonished at how quiet DD is! Grin

VitoCorleone · 24/10/2012 22:45

I do this with my 2 every night, well i dont prod them, i go into my 4 year olds room and start stroking his face, he usually turns over so i give him a kiss and leave, go to babys room (6 month) and stroke his face too, he usually opens one eye, waves and arm then goes back to sleep, give him a kiss and leave.

Then if i wake up through the night for the toilet i do it again before i go back to bed.

Coralanne · 24/10/2012 22:45

Just realised I wrote the same thing as Jude Grin

Gooshka · 24/10/2012 22:46

I still do it to my 7-year-old Blush.

LostInWales · 24/10/2012 22:46

Oh dear, I know this might make me odd but I've just done my last check of the night and stared pointedly at all three ds' until I could be sure they were breathing. They are 12, 10 and 5 (yes, years Blush). I'm still not beyond putting a hand in the duvet to check either. They are our babies and still look utterly beautiful asleep even when they are getting armpit hair

TwinkleReturns · 24/10/2012 22:46

I still do this with DD (18mo). The other day she opened her eyes, smiled at me and then drifted back off. Made me cry [hblush]

I now also poke my bump and feel for kicks before I go to sleep!

Whatevertheweather · 24/10/2012 22:47

My 5yo snores so loudly there's no need to poke her Grin But 10 week old baby dd gets a hand placed gently on her chest multiple times a day and night

Gordy dp keeps threatening that we have to put dd3 upstairs in her basket once she's asleep in the evening. I am resisting all suggestions of this at the moment!

Yanbu Grin you are normal, or we are all mad with you Grin

Congratulations on your beautiful baby Grin

BabylonPI · 24/10/2012 22:54

You just made me prod ds Hmm Grin

He's 6 mths on Friday and growing like a weed - I want him to slow down a bit!

He's also a very quiet sleeper Smile

Happy thread, I like it!

RandallPinkFloyd · 24/10/2012 22:55

Of course YANBU, I do it every night! (DS is 14 mo)

I get into bed, peer over the side of the cot, stroke his beautiful face then duck down again quick if he stirs [hgrin]

CrikeyOHare · 24/10/2012 22:56

I feel a right berk admitting this - but my DS is 16, and I still occasionally give him a prod to make sure he's still breathing Blush

dancinginthemoonlight · 24/10/2012 23:00

I don't need to. My 20 month DS id snoring so loudly in the room next door I can hear him through the wall! Yanbu tho, I stall check him twice before I go to bed to make sure he is comfy

blackeyedsusan · 24/10/2012 23:00

lick your fingers and hold them just under their nose... if they breath out you can feel the cold... then you poke them... Grin

laurenamium · 24/10/2012 23:01

YANBU!

DD is 20 months and still has a heart sensor Blush and I still go in to stare at check on her before I go to bed and if I wake in the night too Grin
