Ok, £2 million quid for a house. Not a mansion. And not in Chelsea, or even in London.

So what do you put as the cover photo?

A shot at a weird angle showing off all the hideous 1970s fugliness of the houss:

www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-21502302.html?premiumA=true

And then a few photos making it look cramped.

Same house, different agent:

It looks much nicer all round.

I mean obviously it's still hideous for £2 million, but still.

Mrs P you need Sanderstead Village, dahling. We have a duck pond and everything. A dodgy pub with the name Swan in it is not the same thing at all.

(What are they doing with that BTW? Any idea? Refurbished pub or converted into flats?)

OldCatLady · 25/10/2012 07:42

I'm 99% sure I know the person who lives in (or maybe used to live in) the godalming house...small world! I went to a house party there when I was in college :)

aziraphale · 25/10/2012 11:21

Boomerwang that fireplace...drool

The one with all the cushions - these make me giggle, especially when you see displays just like that in bed shops - "Very nice. How do I get in?"

I WISH EA would put up room measurements !!!!

valiumredhead · 25/10/2012 12:01

boom I am drooling over that big drive, double garage and spacious utility room!

valiumredhead · 25/10/2012 12:02

Croydon is SO not a village Grin

SHRIIIEEEKPoolingBearBlood · 25/10/2012 12:08

Oi op thats my house

LemonBreeland · 25/10/2012 12:09

The first house is ugly, but the second agents pictures are going to do a lot more to sell it than the first.

The second house is truly hideous, I don't even know where to start. Shock

bomerwang I love that Swedish apartment. My Aunt lives in Sweden and has a detached house that isn't as nice as that.

cheekydevil · 25/10/2012 12:21

Grin@ hell. They are cushion penises! Think they have spent too much time on cruise ships. I couldn't be arsed to remake that bed everyday. Would sleep on the sofa.

LulaPalooza · 25/10/2012 12:25

why not give a nod to Croydon's "urban" feel and call south Croydon SoCro?

valiumredhead · 25/10/2012 12:31

Like Streatham in the 80's was called St Reatham Grin

SoupDragon · 25/10/2012 12:35

SoCro appears to be The Restaurant Quarter Hmm

MrsTerryPratchett · 25/10/2012 14:51

SoCro "the restaurant Quartier" methinks.

mathanxiety · 25/10/2012 15:19

I love that house Boomerang. It would easily cost over a mil elsewhere.

JoanBias · 25/10/2012 15:47

South Croydon is not that bad, being near East Croydon and New Chavvington has a sort of halo effect

pigletmania · 25/10/2012 15:57

2 million don't get much for your money do you. I live in Buckinghamshire and you can get an awesome roper ty for less than that in the lovely Buckinghamshire and chiltern villages

VintageRainBoots · 25/10/2012 16:34

JoanBias: "Vintage, anything close to the town centre is stupidly expensive. Godalming is 'nicer', but obviously not as much shopping, and a longer train journey to London.

How are the schools in Godalming? Is it a good place to live?

JoanBias · 25/10/2012 16:53

No personal experience of the schools in Godalming. There are a number of senior private schools in the area. But the town is more friendly/countryside compared with Guildford which has more of a big town/London/unfriendly vibe.

VintageRainBoots · 25/10/2012 17:00

Joan, we'll have to check out Godalming then. We've been in Los Angeles (which is definitely an urban city) for years now and we're eager to try something rural.

How easy is it to get around Godalming (and to/from Guildford) via feet, bikes, and public transport? Since we're Americans, we're going to have to re-learn how to drive-shifting gears with our left hands! Driving on the "wrong" side of the road! Egads! Wink-so it will be a while before we buy a car.

I guess the land those houses in the OP are built on is more valuable than the actual houses. You can always prettify an ugly house, but you can't move one that's in a bad location. They do have large gardens.

I'm loving South Croydon Village, as someone who lived just off Croham Road for years I wish it had more of a village feel to it :o

MrsTerryPratchett · 25/10/2012 17:37

Everywhere is eventually going to be a Tesco.

To all my Croydon buddies, just start saying South Croydon Village. Everyone will assume you know something they don't and follow suit. I'm hoping to raise the tone. We might get a deli that sells naice ham and everything.

MrsTerryPratchett · 25/10/2012 17:39

I'm hoping to move back in a few years, I expect South Croydon Village to be firmly established by then.

Iodine · 25/10/2012 17:57

Vintage, have you had a look at Shere? It's gorgeous around there but may be a little bit too quiet if you're used to LA. I can't imagine the public transport is too good around there but it is very easy to drive around.
