To think the lid on Carte Noire coffee is excessive and annoying?

DH bought some stupid fancy instant Carte Noire coffee because it was on sale. The jar has a completely ridiculous lid that's about 6cm tall. It makes the jar not fit in the cupboard. And it doesn't even come off or go on easily. I had a little rant about it today. It is a stupid lid which is big only in order to be show offy and I do not like it. AIBU?

I don't know about Carte Noir but I agree that the amount of packaging on food is ridiculous and unnecessary.

GeneHuntsMistress · 24/10/2012 00:10

Oh yes definitely! I can never get it on straight, no matter which way I start turning it, the lid always ends up at angles instead of straight?!

But I put up with it because it is my favourite instant coffee EVER

WorraLiberty · 24/10/2012 00:13

I'm a Nescafe woman

But the lid does sound annoying and unnecessary

Perhaps you could wear it as a hat on Halloween?

LadyMaryCreepyCrawley · 24/10/2012 00:17

Buy another one, you'll be able to use them as stilts.

FatimaLovesBread · 24/10/2012 04:37

Oooh where is it on offer?
Agree the lid is huge, especially if you buy the big jar, it's at least 10cm

Dawndonna · 24/10/2012 07:34

Yep, but it's the only instant I will buy. I bung them in the cupboard without the lid. If the jar has been opened, it's in the coffee storage jar with a lid.

SHRIIIEEEKPoolingBearBlood · 24/10/2012 07:40

Yes, they are. And I never get it back on first time of trying, I spin it round and instead of attaching to the jar the lid flie across the room. Very annoying. But nice coffee. Not smoky like a lot of instant seems to be, which I can't stand.

CogitoErgoSometimes · 24/10/2012 09:59

The jar's not all that tall and it's probably sturdily built because they sell those eco pouches to refill it when empty. I've had the same jar for well over a year now.

NellyBluth · 24/10/2012 10:05

Completely annoying but they do do the eco-pouches now so I just buy them for home as we decant straight into a coffee jar.

But it's worth putting up with because 'tis the best instant coffee in the world.

mylittleponypinkypie · 24/10/2012 12:18

You can just pull off the stupid sticky up bit off, leaving a normal lid behind if its annoying you. Half screw it onto the jar so you can get a decent grip on the plastic and pull it off. Smile

We have been getting this brand for years because, IMO, it is the nicest instant around. Size of the lid never occurred to me TBH and I don't think I have ever had any trouble opening or closing it. And it doesn't live in a cupboard it is always out near the kettle so no problem there!

starkadder · 29/10/2012 20:08

Ooh sorry did not realise anyone had replied! Thanks Smile I will try to wrench the stupid lid off. Or maybe buy a fancy coffee jar and decant. I don't even drink the stuff - am a tea drinker - and dh, who bought it, says, irritatingly, "tastes exactly the same as anything else and there is nothing wrong with the lid".

T'was on offer in Tesco's.

Yanbu! I like Carte Noir but the lid is stupid|!

starkadder · 29/10/2012 20:13

Oh oh! Dh has successfully removed the stupid bombastic lid! So now we have a normal coffee jar AND a lovely toy for our baby to play with. I take it all back. Grin
