if your wife asks you not to put the tv on for the ds's in the morning

what time does that mean she wants te tv putting on?

every.single.morning he put it on for them and every morning they go slow and play up

he leaves the house at 7.45 am and then i have to get 4 (1 with sen and 3 under 4) ready and out the door when they want to watch tv or stress because ive switched it off

aibu to want him to bloody well listen?

I can't help as we both have a no TV in the morning (before noon morning) rule. Have you decided together or did you tell him?

ive asked him not to, i unplug the bloody thing during the day or they just stand there staring at it, he plugs it in so they can watch it, and im left to get them all ready

i'll be doing something else, making breakfast finding ds's elusive socks and undies that he says hes sorted the night before but then they run off and hide

We have no tv until we're all dressed rule. It would be a nightmare otherwise.

just turn it off again? or take the thingy out of the fuse box that controls the supply to the tv socket the night before when you go to bed?

why don't you put it off when you get up ? I know he is being a twat though he is disregarding your wishes but I guess they are his kids too, I always have bbc on or daybreak depending they never are interested ,when they were in primary it was breakfast clothes then if there was time they got childrens tv,

are you up when he does it? do you get up together? if so i would be saying it as soon as you get up "dont put the tv on please, it makes the dcs stop functioning" then as soon as he goes near it to turn it on, say again, "no tv please, we have to get ready for school"

Yanbu - I have a no tv rule altogether when ds1 is up and if dh puts it on I promptly turn it off - I think the message is slowly getting through as he does it less often Grin

No tv or iPad till after they are completely ready. The usually end up with about 10 minutes. I would be Angry too if I were you OP.

We have never had the telly on in the mornings - ds has to be out if the house by 8.10am and it's all go go go !

Can you still take fuses out of plugs? I thought they were all moulded plastic now.

To avoid any kind of confusion or having to get into discussion with the children why don't you just have a blanket ban on TV?

Do you children really stand and stare at the TV when it's not on, I'd be very concerned about that.

Bit confused by the OP tbh.

Does he put in on before you are up & leave it on "for you"??

If so, the lazyarse should switch it off when leaving the house.

But I can´t see why you can´t just switch it off if he has left.

Or just switch it off anyway if it´s distracting the kids.

if he´s not getting the kids ready-it´s up to you what happens!

morning tv is a reward for being dressed down to your shoes, teeth cleaned, dishes in the sink, coat and bag neatly laid by the door.

on a good day we get 10 minutes if that.

And tbh, the kids were never rewarded for getting up, ready & out of the house on time!

Take the fuse out of the plug? I know it seems incredible, but there are so many little children's tasks to complete prior to stepping out the door that they add up to 'fucking ages', and even two minutes to clean my teeth can seem a lot to ask in the mornings. Four (once you've located the screwdriver) for a spot of DIY is unlikely to be practical for a lot of people or am I the only one who fails on these simple achievements.

Slightly confused as to the problem? Is it that DH likes watching the tv so he puts it on, and this distracts the children from getting ready? If so, seems mean to tell him he can't watch it. (and are the under 4s really interested in the news or whatever he's watching?) If he's putting on Cbeebies or similar, I agree that a TV free zone sounds a good plan.
