Just back from supermarket shop with ds and it was full of halloween tat, literally every corner we turned.
Now he's harassing me for said tat and tbh I just feel like it's a big marketing ploy to encourage people to spend money on crap they don't need

A lot of my neighbours seem to go ott decorating the houses. I just don't get it. I'm a single parent and trying to put cash away for Christmas, also got 3 kids birthdays to buy for next week. Ds is 4.

So am I justified or just a big meanie?

I'm wondering this too (DD 10 months)

I will be mighty pissed off if my friendly note is ignored Grin

Clearly I meant seeking Grin

"I think there should be a law/rule whatever you call it that you don't go to houses that are not decorated.
Decorate= invite ToT ers."

That's what happens in our village. We never knock on doors of houses that don't have pumpkins/decorations. Luckily we live in a little known cul-de-sac and very rarely get trick or treaters.

Incidentally the children say "trick or treat", but they never play any tricks.

Those of you who hate Halloween, I wonder if your views might change when your children are older and want to join in.

Bunbaker - I take it you don't have Mischief Night where you live then? That's round Halloween time, and is all about playing unpleasant 'tricks' on people for the hell of it. It's a right pain in the arse.

I live in Yorkshire. Mischief night is on 4th November. I know what mischief night is, and it is a real PITA.

That said it seems to have died a death in recent years and as our house is a little out of the way we don't get mischief makers any more.

YANBU. I don't celebrate Halloween and just ignore it. No objection to a hat/pumpkin/apple bobbing, but draw the line at trick or treat.
