DD was three today. I'm taking her to a place tomorrow where u pay ridiculous money when they are three. I am planning to say she's two as its just by a couple of days. I am very skint and this will mean I can get her some lunch out, a rise and an ice cream. Otherwise it will be the attraction and home. AIBU?

but dont let her hear you say she is 2 because she might rat you out and say but mummy I had my birthday I am 3 now, (bitter experience )

Yup - definitely depends how proud she is at being 3. That fact that you are whispering her age to the cashier might be a giveaway.

But will she suddenly blurt out 'I'm three now mummy, remember it was my birthday yesterday!'...They have a habit of doing this at time syou would really rather they didn't!

Just make sure something/someone keeps her occupied while you quietly tell them her new age

My mum did this once, my sister took great pride in saying "Silly mummy, I'm 3 now" thankfully the staff member just laughed and let her in anyway!

I think unless you have a real jobsworth serving you they wouldn't care!

MrsJay I'm going with some friends so going to get them to entertain her when we go in. Four full paying adults so they are getting near on 90 quid off us.

Maybe you could have gone last week when she really was only 2? I do sympathise when it's only a day, but I think it's never too early to teach children about honesty

justmyview the OP's DD won't know that her mother is being dishonest because she will be distracted by the friends.

justmyview I didn't have any money last week. I've had to ebay my life to get her some bday treats.

I did this with DS. I just used to ask for an adult and an under 3. DS heard the 3 bit and so wouldn't pipe up about being 3

Have also done it the other way round. DS is a late August baby and have let him say he's 6,7,8 like his friends to go on rides etc or go without an adult.

I remember queueing for to pay to go into something when I was about six. My father bent over to me and whispered "your sister's 3" I said "no she's not". There was much agressive sushing, so I shut up. When I read the sign "Children 3 years and under free" I finally got it!

Probably best to buy tickets with any children likely to pipe up out of earshot! Otherwise, no problem

Kelly I did this at Marwell Zoo on DS's 3rd birthday, I even took his "3 Today" badge off before we went in

I'm a crap liar. I'd be tempted to say she's 3 but only just, please will you let us in at the reduced rate? Surely unless they're horrid they'll agree? Especially if you pretend you haven't got the cash for full price (ok, not that crap a liar )

Can you buy tickets online before you go? They never seem to check ages when you do it that way

We took DD to monkeyworld for her 3rd birthday but the day before her birthday. Under 3's are free. I took her passport in case they thought I was lying about her age as she was tall and a good talker

Sea Life Centre are very good at letting them in when it's obvious they're over-age which is a good job because Sea Life Centre is bloody awful
