To be annoyed about p&c space

Today went to tesco no parent and child spaces, not a problem there's only two. Noticed another parent from nursery was parked in one thought this was strange as her kids are always the last out of nursery at it was only 510. Sure enough met her and her husband in the shop with no children!

So you mean they'd left both of their children at nursery even though neither of them was at work? You're right, that is shocking Shock

SunshineOutdoors · 19/10/2012 20:14

I like p and c spaces because I'm crap at parking and they're easier to get into.

Prefer the spaces where you can drive through one into the one in front so that you don't have to reverse out though.

dearprudence · 19/10/2012 20:15

Just marking my place in case the telly gets boring later.

SirSugar · 19/10/2012 20:15

MN initiation thread, you'll never do it again OP and you will change your name

Xnedra · 19/10/2012 20:15

P&C threads always bring the worst out in people, usaually trying a kind of one upmanship about how they never use them.
They are not the be all and end all nor a right, but they are a nice 'perk' some shops offer. A bit like the baskets only queue or the 10 items or less. That's the way I see them anyway, if they're free and we've got the kids then yay, if not who cares.
But I would no more park in one without the kids than I would take a trolley into the basket line.

IvorHughJackolantern · 19/10/2012 20:16

I like those too Sunshine. I like to pretend that I've managed to reverse into it. And I like to think that other people have noticed and are admiring my brilliant reversing.

I haven't reverse parked since I took my test. My instructor had little stickers stuck on his car window, and when they lined up with the lines on the floor of the car park, that's how you knew when to start turning the steering wheel. Wouldn't have a clue in my own car. Keep meaning to sort it out, especially when I have to park further away because of it.

ArtfulAardvark · 19/10/2012 20:21

Hi, I assume you are new or you would never have poked your stick into this particular cage.

I know what you mean, parents who dont have their children with them should have the empathy to know that taking P&C space when they dont need it is selfish and thoughtless. Unfortunately some people just dont give a toss.

I hope you dont get too flamed! As someone else said if it gets too nasty just change your name and start again.

ScariestFairyByFar · 19/10/2012 20:22

Xnedra - that's exactly how I see them as a perk like comparison about using a trolley at a basket. For the record I made it clear I didn't see them the same as a disabled space people who park in disabled spaces should be knee capped wouldn't go that far on p&c spaces.

Yes they were both off with both DC in nursery they have been off all week with dc in nursery.

cheekydevil · 19/10/2012 20:26

Leave the bastards!

DameMargotFountain · 19/10/2012 20:27

expect an announcement in about 6 weeks time, they'll have another DC about July i reckon Grin

Sallyingforth · 19/10/2012 20:28

I except they were tories.

The ordinary spaces are meant for plebs.

gordyslovesheep · 19/10/2012 20:31

no one NEEDS P+C spaces - where you shopping for a grip? Had they sold out :(

manicinsomniac · 19/10/2012 20:32

I never really get the attitude on mn that p and c spaces are for anyone who feels like them and that nobody should complain about their misuse.

It's not an opinion I've ever heard expressed in real life. I wouldn't dream of using one without small children, I just drive past those spaces without even thinking about them. I assume everybody else does too, I've never seen a childless person in one except late at night.

The vitriol directed at people who complain about this is so weird. They're designated spaces. Many places say you'll be fined for using one unnecessarily

I wouldn't get upset about it personally but YANBU and don't deserve the mocking.

IvorHughJackolantern · 19/10/2012 20:33

Ah Sunshine I like you, I too had the stickers, I too have not reverse parked since passing my test three years ago Smile It's probably a very over-rated skill anyway.

ScariestFairyByFar · 19/10/2012 20:34

Thanks manic Smile where I live the workmen seem to think there made for vans!

Reverse parking is easier than going in forwards. It is it is it is.

gordyslovesheep · 19/10/2012 20:39

I never drive in ...reversing is the only way!

Loobylou222 · 19/10/2012 20:40

I agree with you ScariestFairyByFar! It really fucks me off when ppl without kids park in the spaces, you wouldn't park in a disabled space if you werent disabled!

IvorHughJackolantern · 19/10/2012 20:40

It's really not prudence, it's not it's not. I cannot go backwards without turning the wheel. I just can't. I have to turn it. So even if I get all straight, I still go bendy when I move. And if it requires wheel turnage I always turn it the wrong way. What I would like is a double-ended car so you could get out and sit in the 'front' at the back and then just drive in 'forwards' but it's actually backwards. IYSWIM.

Confused
Xnedra · 19/10/2012 20:41

One empty space in front of another are the best, drive through and out. We call them magic spaces and they evoke as much excitement as an all chocoalte kitkat.
