To want a white cot when the wardrobe and set of drawers is beech?

Basically I want a Stokke sleepi cot. No way could we afford one new. I have just seen one on eBay second hand, good condition but it is white. The rest of the furniture we have allocated to the baby's room is beech. (on a budget )

I really really want a Stokke. Would I be unreasonable to get it even though it won't match the rest of the furniture? Would it look really stupid?

Who is going to see it? I don't think the baby will be too bothered. Plus the white cot will go eventually and be replaced by a bed?

Mix and match is nice. I have Victorian drawers for the nursery but probably won't find a cot the exact same colour, doesn't matter!

Mismatched furniture looks way better than matchy match. Avoid more beech.

It's one of those things that you will look back on in a few years time and wonder why you worried about it.

Mix and match is fine. The baby won't care and in the big scheme of things the cot will only last for a limited time.

If it's what you want and a good price then just get it.

Of course it doesn't matter!Furniture is furniture, it's to use, not to look at.
It will probably look lovely together anyway [I have seen this in a kitchen ie white units and beech work tops. Went really well together]

TBH after a few weeks of no sleep you won't care what colour the cot is Edd. Sad but true.

White and wood goes. I think white cots are nicer than wood ones, they look cleaner.

Ooh thanks for the replies. I got giddiously happy when I saw it was nearby so we could pick it up. Was thinking if I could find a white changer as well then it wouldn't look so out of place.

Sparkling speaks the truth. You won't notice the colour at 4am...

It won't be long before you're changing the whole lot for more grown up kids furniture.
Ds1 had a silver ikea chest of drawers, a plastic/metal change table and his cot was beech in our bedroom for 7months. None of it mattered or matters because he is now a 4yr old, all that stuff was passed on or sold by the time he was 2.

It's lovely picking all the bits for the first time.

Enjoy it and buy what you like, I wouldn't worry about the white and beech though.

Yes it is lovely picking it all out for the first time. I went a bit Mamas and Papas crazy. I had matching border, curtains, changing station, bouncy chair , high chair,and storage boxes. Oh and a mobile.

It really didn't matter when I was sitting in the rocking chair breastfeeding at 4am watching the sun come up for the bajillionth night in a row though.

We've just done DS's room in white and beech , the ikea wardrobe is white with beech doors. Looks lovely - do it! If you got beech cot it probably wouldn't be exact same shade of beech anyway.

But it does at the time Raspberry. I did resist one of those twee material bag things to put clean nappies in though.

It isn't necessary to have it all matching esp a cot, which I think is nicer really standing out from the rest of the furniture. It is special. Also, posh friends tell me matching furniture is common [looks around flat nervously] that's my excuse for the mismatches anyway.

Ah, but Sparkling I did have the hanging thingy for nappies and found it very comfortable as a pillow for snoozing on when I ended up exhausted and sleeping next to DS's cot.

Nobody cares least of all the baby. Recalls difficult conversation in John Lewis with lady telling me I had to buy all the McClaren pram accessories (OK 18 years ago) in the matching Daisy design there and then because the range could change and they might not be available in 6 months time and the pram accessories might not be co-ordinated. Still remember her face when I said "I'd buy what I needed as I went along and I didn't think a baby would mind particularly if the sun shade was a slightly different pattern to the pram".

Recalls having a white broderie Anglaise sun shade - was on special offer (for a boy). Worked well -not a problem.

At one stage the babies room had dark pine bed, white cot, modern pine changing table, mahogany chest of drawers, beech rocker. The babies didn't care and neither did I. I'm sitting in the beech rocker now

Teenage dd lives in there still - it is now like entering a bag of marshmallows.

Mean. I should have got one. I did have the nappy sausage making bin thing for DS1. I had to have it.

Then DS2 arrived and I would tie the nappy sack up and throw it out of the bedroom window onto the patio to put in dustbin later.

I never did succumb to the sausage wrapper but I did consider tying a rope around the handle of the wheely bin and throwing it up to the bedroom window.

Shitty nappy... In nappy sack... Open window... Pull rope to open bin... Throw nappy from window into bin... Release rope and close window...

I can see the thread now "AIBU that my neighbour throws dirty nappies out of the window and into the bin".
