AIBU to think that £250 is too much for mam+van?

I am moving home shortly and need a man/van. Move is from Stratford to Greenwich, London, and really not far (15/ 20 mins drive). Is £250 too much? Can anyone recommend a reliable and cheaper man+van?
Thank you!!

Sorry, that should obviously say man+van and not mam!

Have you tried gumtree? I've found all my men with vans there, never paid more than £50 an hour. £70 an hour for two blokes.

MrsKeithRichards · 16/10/2012 23:26

One load or many? Is he unpacking/packing for you too?

Splatt34 · 16/10/2012 23:26

Think it depends how much stuff they will be carting into & out of van. If say a 2 bed house worth, in London, I'd have thought pretty reasonable.

BlueSkySinking · 16/10/2012 23:34

To work it out I'd say 100 for labor, plus mileage costs, plus use of van amount.

jellybaby25 · 16/10/2012 23:34

Not that much stuff, to be honest... a large keyboard and quite a few boxes (maybe 20?) ... no furniture (it's going separately).
Gum tree sounds like a good suggestion. Thanks!

There is a site you can go on where they all bid for your job and try and do it cheaper than anyone else, then they get left feedback. Can't remember the name of it and I'm on my phone just now so can't google it. I used it last year and moved from Scotland to the Midlands for £320.

jellybaby25 · 17/10/2012 00:26

That sounds great Missy, thanks. Will check it out.

Ah, for 20 boxes & no furniture i thibk £250 is alot. we moved a whole 2 bed house for less

missymoomoomee · 17/10/2012 08:55

this is the site if you look at some of the jobs on there already you will get an idea of the price you would pay.

CelticPromise · 17/10/2012 08:56

Google Van Girls, they are good and reasonable!

PickledFanjoCat · 17/10/2012 08:58

I used a site where I put the job in and they all bid. I had three or four bids within the hour, probably similar or same to one above.

And the driver was keen to get good feedback so was helpful.

Van Girls

I'm loving the idea of Mam and Van. I am imagining a truck driving Northern mother who clucks about encouraging you to pack your stuff up.

jellybaby25 · 17/10/2012 16:25

Thanks for all your help everyone! SoupDragon -- LOL! May be on to something there!!
