I was so pleased when John won,I thought his family were a bit tough on him in the little home video bit so when he said all he wanted was to please his Mum,I will admit I had a tear in my eye Grin

I loved Brendan, too,he seemed like such a gentleman

cfc · 16/10/2012 21:54

I agree with the poster who said that Brendan gave over to his emotion in such a dignified way - I thought exactly the same. I did not like him really in the past, prob because of DH calling him a smug teacher's pet! But I really admired him tonight and found myself hoping for him to win in the few seconds it took for them to announce it which I guess showed my true feelings!

I really wanted the savoury - all three - shown at the beginning. I am starving as hyperemesis has been killing me and I can't eat too late in the day but by God they looked GOOD! Belly rumbling now! (Am 37 weeks).

GoldenSeptember · 16/10/2012 22:08

Pah!! Hmm

Brendan wos robbed! Angry Hmm Angry

Brendan was totally consistent throughout; he should have been star baker for a third time but they were unnecessarily scathing about his disney cottage (which was v. kitch but really skilled, imo). He was far and away the best baker - the man's a baking machine! Grin

James was unpredictable but sometimes brilliant - I would have been pleased-ish if he'd won.

But John? Just... meh. He nearly went out several times and I don't think he was any better than Danny that's for sure. Or the lass that went out the week before (can't remember her name).

And none of them were better than Ryan, who we thought was bloody fantastic and should have won. Wink

Overwrought about baking? Me? Noooooooo surely not. Grin

Mrsjay · 16/10/2012 22:10

The french fancies was tense wasn't it I did like Brendan he was lovely john deserved to win I think Tom was a bit over adventurous with 5 cakes that didn't really go anywhere , says me who is of course a master baker Grin

KenLeeeeeee · 16/10/2012 22:16

There's no such thing as "just cake".

I held it together until they had the round-up of all the contestants and what they were up to now, then I had a little weep. I don't even have hormones to blame! Just really, really like cake...

MissAnnersley · 16/10/2012 22:19

I had a cry watching Brendan. Nothing major but definitely wet eyes. I have absolutely loved the series.

toysoldiers · 16/10/2012 22:20

I loved the fact that they have all gone off and done lovely things.

Really think John and his Mum need done family therapy. All that 'we never thought he'd make it' and him finally doing something that pleased her Sad

You can stick your X Factor - I am now bereft.

Mrsjay · 16/10/2012 22:21

Not enough Mel and Sue on the telly IMO I did laugh when sue told Mary to trot off Grin

LadyMaryCreepyCrawley · 16/10/2012 22:23

Sad Poor John. His mother really doesn't come across very well. He needs to be on the stately home thread. Sad

IDismyname · 16/10/2012 22:26

I think Brendan was far too smug all along... never took to him.

I loved the other two, but lost my real enthusiasm when Catherine got voted off. I LOVED her. Luffly girl.

OwedToAutumn · 16/10/2012 22:29

She did it, too, Mrsjay!

Mary Berry trotting like a little show pony!

Grin

cocolepew · 16/10/2012 22:35

Brenda should have won Sad

John's mum needs a shake.

The week they did the patisserie type things he was wick.

Good for him and James passing their exams though [dmile]

DontCallMeBaby · 16/10/2012 22:47

Well, DD was amazed at the idea of two grown men having boyfriends, and only just noticed that James 'sounds Scottish', so I had a little weep at how rubbish a job I am clearly doing of bring a child up in 21st century Britain. And then I got a bit stressed about the fondant fancies (all that faff for something which is just not that nice). And then Brendan got all choked. All the while I had no cake of my own. It was emotional.

I love that Brendan will be teaching baking in care homes, using his talent to make a difference where it's really needed. What a lovely man, I was rooting for him to win.

Cathryn was a whiny arse who talked in a baby voice, we all cheered when she got the boot. Grin

ToothGah · 16/10/2012 23:35

Brendan was robbed. He was by far the best baker. John had some terrible weeks.

And sorry, but I was so disappointed by all of their final cakes :(

TapselteerieO · 16/10/2012 23:44

Disappointed by the final.

There were times in this series where I thought they should have called it quits and said Brendan was the winner - James was my favourite, he was modest, innovative and always interesting, I almost think it was the wrong show for him (too fussy and prissy some of the challenges) completely agree with the poster who said the cakes were disappointing in this episode.

I think this series the challenges were a little disappointing.

mrscumberbatch · 17/10/2012 00:50

I'll still watch it next season!!!

squoosh · 17/10/2012 00:54

Brendan was robbed! What the actual FUCK was the point of the 'competition' if they were then only judged on one day's baking??!?

John is a nice guy but he didn't even belong in the final three.

ROBBED.

Preferthedogtothekids · 17/10/2012 01:20

I was surprised by the Judge's decision as I thought it was always going to be between James (my choice) and Brendan, but John was a nice guy and really good baker.

Brendan probably was the most skilled baker of them all, and the judges were well aware of that but I think his years of study and experience lifted him slightly above the criteria of the best 'home baker' that the show was out to crown. James was the inventor and a young man of huge intelligence who will go on to be a great baker, but I think will gain the most from having won tonight and for that I am really glad he got it :-)

Preferthedogtothekids · 17/10/2012 01:21

*but I think JOHN will gain the most from having won tonight and for that I am really glad he got it :-)

GwendolineScaryLacey · 17/10/2012 06:45

I am pissed right off Angry. John seems like a nice bloke and all that but the series belonged to Brendan. He is a home baker, he's not a professional. He can't help being older and more experienced than the others.

I really felt like they knew they should give it to him but just didn't want to. Some of John's efforts over the weeks were dire.

Doyouthinktheysaurus · 17/10/2012 07:11

I think Brendan should have won too for his consistency of baking excellence.

The comment about John finally making his mum proud bothered me tooSad I'm proud of my dses for who they are and the fact that they do their best every day, I make sure I tell them a lot too. I'd hate them to grow up thinking they have to do something spectacular to make me proud.....

GwendolineScaryLacey · 17/10/2012 07:13

Yes I agree John's family were awful. Forgot to mention that.
