To leave DD downstairs watching TV whilst I sort the washing out on the landing upstairs?

Just got off the phone to my mum, mentioned that DS was downstairs watching TV whilst I was on the landing sorting through the mountains of washing.

She started ranting at me saying how I shouldn't do it.

All doors are open and I shout down to her, nothing in living room that poses a danger really, unless you count more bloody washing.

AIBU to think that it is fine or is my my mum right and I am being an irresponsible parent?

What age is he I think your mum is being a bit loony you can't be attached to children 24/7 you are upstairs not out for the evening

YANBU, how are you meant to get anything done if you have them attached to you all the time?!

YANBU DS + TV = 20 minutes to do what needs to be done. So long as you can hear them I think it's ok althoughdo beware of the silences DS drew all over our white couches the other day with an orange pen (it did come out, all hail crayola!).

I leave DS whilst I get stuff done and he's 10 months. The room is as babyproof as I can reasonably make it, he can't get out and if I didn't leave him from time to time to gawp at baby tv play with his wooden, Mandarin flashcards I would get nothing done

I do it, sometimes you just have to let Thomas and his friends baby sit. As long as you can hear them and pop down to check on them I don't see an issue.

YANBU! I would never get anything done if I didn't let dd watch a bit of tv or occupy herself with toys for 20-30 mins.

I think it's fairly irresponsible not know the gender of your child

Twins, one of each.

My mum is way more protective of ds than she was with us. I was chatting to a granny and she said its because with a gc you are worried about them and your dc if anything happened to them so its double the stress.

Whatever age your dd or ds I'd say this is fine. Lock the front/back door if they are mobile.

Nice to know IANBU. I just sort of have to ignore my mum when she says stuff like that.

And to be honest I don't know what she did when we were younger, there were four of us!

She is a worrier though admittedly.
