To think this wasn't a "crap tea"

GColdtimer · 11/10/2012 17:52

I had my dn today, sil has just picked her up and I told her what we had for tea. Her response was "oh she likes crap teas like that, not like our proper food"

I served (all homemade) cornflake chicken goujons, potato wedges, baby sweet corn, green beans and broccoli. Fruit and yoghurt for pudding.

I thought it was quite healthy.

apart from being very rude, because you can say a quick tea, or junk food without saying it was CRAP, she's also mad,as that is a lovely healthy well balanced dinner - for an adult never mind a child!

I can only assume the DC said "we had nuggets and chips" - or SIL thought YOU were joking when you said "home made chicken goujons and wedges" and thought it WAS just nuggetts and chips?

BTW if anyone is interested, we do the chicken thing with beaten egg not yogurt/mayo - we also do chunks of salmon the same - kids love it.

Ephiny · 11/10/2012 18:31

Wow, how rude. Sounds like a nice, 'proper' home-cooked meal to me, and even if it wasn't, that would be a rude thing to say!

I assume you won't be doing her childcare favours again in future?

SugariceAndScary · 11/10/2012 18:33

I think that sounds lovely! Is she a tv chef wannabe and cooks up fab restaurant meals every night? Mad woman for sure!

Wigeon · 11/10/2012 18:37

Seriously, how on earth would she improve on that? It's a perfect balanced meal.

Frontpaw · 11/10/2012 18:37

I wonder what 'real food' is then? Next time she comes over offer her a plate of plastic jam tarts and velcro pizza slices.

ethelb · 11/10/2012 18:39

we have to know what your sil normally feeds her Grin

GColdtimer · 11/10/2012 18:39

I think to be honest, she cooks a lot of risottos, curries and casseroles and never really does "kids tea". Dd1 is really fussy and so I tend to do healthy variation of kids stuff - she hates "soggy" food and sil always moans about her being difficult to feed when her dd will eat anything.

If you simply said "corn flake chicken" she would have though you meant tiny pieces of chicken nuggets, like pop corn chicken.

SugariceAndScary · 11/10/2012 18:40

I bet you're the better cook and she knows it so she's being arsey!

GColdtimer · 11/10/2012 18:40

And in addition dn has also been known to ask for fresh trout as a Friday treat. Strange child. Grin

Acumens100 · 11/10/2012 18:40

That is rude. How unfortunate!

My MIL is very screwed up around food and calls everything she likes "crap". She will literally say, "I've bought us some crap to make us feel better." It's just her issues. Maybe your SIL is similar.

GColdtimer · 11/10/2012 18:43

No quint, I explained how I made them. Perhaps it was the cornflakes that did it.

DeadQODy · 11/10/2012 18:47

Stealth boast Wink :o

My dd survives on stuffed pasta and birds shite eye chicken nuggets and smiley faeces faces

sparklingwine · 11/10/2012 18:48

Sounds like my BIL who when my Sis served up pizza said "oh we're eating junk food now are we?"! it was home made, as was the tomato sauce topping..,

ByTheWay1 · 11/10/2012 18:48

Sorry - to me it sounds like home made chicken nuggets and chips with veg... i.e. a kids "tea", sounds dry so you'd need sauce with it -

not proper dinner.... "don't need sauce with proper dinner...." lol - that is my mum's verdict on what constitutes a proper dinner...

Tuttutitlookslikerain · 11/10/2012 18:48

I've made the chicken goujons with Rice Krispies instead of cornflakes. It's really, really nice!

thebody · 11/10/2012 18:49

Silly bitch!! If my child asked for fresh trout as a Friday night treat I would assume they had been cloned by body snatchers!

DowagersHump · 11/10/2012 18:54

Why is risotto any less a 'crap tea'? That's what I'm having for dinner tonight because it's piss easy and I can't be arsed to cook. DS on the other hand had a 50p pizza from Asda with extra cheese. Now that's a crap tea :o

GColdtimer · 11/10/2012 18:55

Bytheway, they did have sauce. There was a bottle of ketchup on the table. Smile

OP posts:
ByTheWay1 · 11/10/2012 18:57

Ah - you see that is what my mum would call a crap tea.... if it needs ketchup... maybe SIL has the same view....

McHappyPants2012 · 11/10/2012 19:00

Better than the kids tea tonight.

Ds bought home a certificate from school and in this home he can pick tea, so he had pancake with bacon and maple syrup and cupcakes.

that tea sound lovely, will have to google cornflake chicken :)

ByTheWay1 · 11/10/2012 19:02

Ah McHP - no sauce..... sounds lovely!!!

MrsMymble · 11/10/2012 19:05

YANBU, your 'crap tea' sounds lovely, your SIL is being out of order. If other people feed my kids I don't care what they have to be honest. It would be rude to complain when they've just given them their dinner and I don't have to. Even so, you can't beat a crap tea from time to time Grin

GhostShip · 11/10/2012 19:14

So next time give him turkey twizzlers, smash an

If only they still made these!! I know they're full of crap but I loved them all the same...
