AIBU to be pissed off at having to remind everyone that it is still only fecking OCTOBER

and that 13 discussion in aibu about Christmas in the last week (in addition to the ones mnhq have moved) is too many. Not to mention that of the 96 threads with Christmas in the title in the last week, more than 45 of them are outside the sodding Christmas topic Hmm. And "Christmas" has appeared in more than 500 posts since the beginning of October.

And I was in my local M&S today, and the entire Christmas stock of cards decorations and sundry tat was set up and squishing the Hallowe'en tat into the aisles.

It's getting ridiculous.

This Christmas is going to be utterly bastard horrible so I expect I'll be on here whenever I can. Nice bit of escapism, I can always hope for a non-festive bunfight to take my mind off things.

Bah Humbug etc

MaryZed · 10/10/2012 20:11

Oh, I'm sorry Ivor Sad. That sounds a bit shit. Feel free to moan about it on my NOT CHRISTMAS thread. I don't mind at all.

OP posts:
LolaDontCryOverSpiltBleach · 10/10/2012 20:17

Ok, i can do serious

I do not like to read certain threads, i hide the threads.

Something will forever upset Someone, always. And if something so joyful for many brings sadness to others then whether it is seasonal or not we have to accept it, you cant stop the world for one person we can be mindful of their feelings but we can't just avoid it.

I would like to discuss Christmas whenever i feel it is relevant, and if i am thinking about it then it will feel relevant,(hypothetically) i would not ask people not to talk about Easter because that time upset me i just would not involve myself in it and i do know that you cannot 'unread' something but that is life.

It doesn't make me any less empathetic to someones situation, i just think if we avoided everything someone enjoyed but another hated we would all just talk about fluff and water.

ZombTEE · 10/10/2012 20:18

::waiting for MaryZ to note that not only does Tee agree with her but she's always know her name to be MaryZed::

Hmm
IvorHughJackolantern · 10/10/2012 20:22

Ah thanks Mary I am simply being a bit maudlin and sorry for myself! I don't like Christmas, never have, but this year whatwith certain people offing themselves so close to the festivities, it's going to be totally cack.

I am a bit concerned that I may end up bloody hosting it, too, which is scary since I can just about fry a sausage without setting my hair on fire. I 'did' Christmas for my mum and DSF a few years ago and served them lasagne which has gone down in family lore as the worst Christmas dinner in history. I can't face it again!

Btw Mary, have you had your significant personal event of 2012 yet? Have just got through mine and it was ok, really. People were very kind and understanding Grin.

RuleBritannia · 10/10/2012 22:21

Any big event - whatever it is - needs lots of preparation and the sooner one starts it the better for all concerned. There is less stress because bits are achieved every so often which means that less has to be done in the lessening time available.

I don't bore people with what I'm doing, I just get on with it. I have now found all the presents that I feel I would like to give and now I need only one.

What does one give to an 18 year old who has just started at university I will not use the part word 'uni'? I have a £10 budget for him. Three bottles of Asda wine? Sheet music for saxophone? A dozen tins of baked beans or chopped tomatoes? Tins of Pek? Please help.

MaryZed · 10/10/2012 22:25

No, next month Mintyy.

dh wants to have a party The kids are supporting him

I just want an i-pad, a bottle of nice wine and to be left alone to sob in a corner.

Congratulations, btw.

RuleBritannia, I could of course advise you on your dilemma, if it was in the Christmas topic except of course I wouldn't see it 'cos it's hidden but I couldn't possibly comment here I suggest a pack of cards and a fiver in small change for poker

Snow is fallin, all around me
Children playing, having fun
It's the season, love and understanding
Merry christmas everyone

Time for party's, celebrations
People dancing, all night long
Time for presents, and exchanging kisses
Time for singing, christmas songs

We're gonna have a party tonight
I'm gonna find that girl
Underneath the mistletoe, we'll kissed by candle light

Room is swaying, records playing
All the old songs, we love to hear
All I wish that everyday was christmas
What a nice way to spend the year

We're gonna have a party tonight
I'm gonna find that girl
Underneath the mistletoe, we'll kissed by candle light

Snow is fallin, all around me
Children playing, having fun
It's the season, love and understanding
Merry christmas everyone
Merry christmas everyone
Oah merry cristmas everyone

Snow is fallin, all around me
Children playing, having fun
It's the season, love and understanding
Merry christmas everyone

Snow is fallin, all around me
Children playing, having fun
It's the season, love and understanding
Merry christmas everyone

Snow is fallin, all around me
Children playing, having fun
It's the season, love and understanding
Merry christmas everyone
Merry christmas everyone

Mary could you please come to my house and tell my dd.
she has decided it is now time to watch the singing hands christmas DVD and listen to christmas music.
now I know she has sn, but she knows it is only October

Mintyy · 10/10/2012 22:52

Grin. She's looking forward to it then 3socks? What camp do you fall into? bah humbug or cover-me-with-tinsel-with-a-fairy-on-top?

Was slightly disgruntled to discover that my boss had brought a packet of Mr Kipling mince pies in today.

MaryZed · 10/10/2012 22:55

Oh, I remember those days.

I remember the fecking Christmas Argos catalogue. dd would cut out every bit of imaginable pink tat and stick the pictures in a spare copy - that was her "Christmas list".

Maybe that's why I'm so anti-it in October Grin

btw, I'm a "cover me with tinsel" type of a person. I love Christmas BUT NOT UNTIL FECKING DECEMBER LIKE ALL SANE PEOPLE

OP posts:
moonstorm · 10/10/2012 23:35

2 pay days until Christmas.

Trills · 11/10/2012 09:55

Anyone old enough to read a calendar knows it's October, and while it's fine to save for Christmas or to book plane tickets if necessary you really don't need to have your menu and seating plan sorted out yet.

Anyone not old enough to rad a calendar - just don't mention Christmas to them yet

MaryZed · 11/10/2012 10:32

Thank you Trills Smile.

I knew you would appreciate my pov.

Because you and I are always right.

OP posts:
Trills · 11/10/2012 10:35

"2 pay days" is wrong, anyway.

Some people get paid weekly. Some get paid every 2 weeks. Some get their December pay packet early (a ridiculous notion if you ask me, it just means it's a really long time til you get paid in January)

Absy · 11/10/2012 10:36

YANBU Maryz

DEFINITELY not unreasonable.

I feel people have too few holidays so there's so much freaking attention on essentially the one that you all get freaked out. Take example from us Jews - we have around 20. Much less emphasis on one day, and stress evenly distributed throughout the year. And if you start going "oh my work, only THREE MONTHS til Purim" everyone looks at you like Hmm "what about the five holidays in the meantime, chill out"

TantrumsAndBalloons · 11/10/2012 10:38

Yes like me. I get paid on the 18th December and not again til the 30th january. Who on earth thought that was a good idea?

I personally do not think there should be any mention of the c word until after bonfire night at least.

I do not start planning my Christmas eve or Christmas day or decide on my "Christmas theme"? Until December.
